Could I live without one? Sure, I've shelves full of books to keep me occupied.

Could I work without one? Nope.

Absolutely yes. I will sometimes intentionally leave my my upstairs just to sit and be with myself and my thoughts for a bit. I find bliss in quiet contemplation.

But look at what you could be posting whilst taking a stroll.

Hmm. I mean, a fair few of us here came from before the time having access to teh Interwebs was considered normal, and even not having a computer at home full stop.

It would be a pain in the arse from a convenience point of view, having to use maps again to plan journeys, visiting the bank to transfer money, writing letters etc... but it's doable.

    I'd rather not though!

Perhaps a digital detox wouldn't be such a bad thing. With that said yeah, I could do without it sure.

But as Pete pointed out, it would be a PITA from a convenience point of view and a majority of people would also have to relearn how to be analog again and many of them, I'm sure, would suffer from severe withdrawal symptoms.

If I started doing that, whilst walking through the village, my wife would have me sectioned.

Everything's too intwined, it might be possible to do most things via the phone or whatnot but it's gonna take a lot longer to achieve even simple things.

    I wouldn’t want to, but… probably.

Everything would be a hell of a lot more difficult, and I wouldn’t be able to do my job any more, but I could probably do it.

Could I live without a smartphone but still have an internet connection though? Abso-freakin’-lutely I could, yes - in fact I’m actively working on it. There are still a few things where I haven’t found a suitable alternative, but I am actively trying to rid myself of dependence on The Enshittified Nightmare Rectangle.

I do love a good detox last year I decided I was no longer going to use discord ect now been 1 year since I had my account but I spend an unhealthy amount of time on it. I need to block you tube shorts I might just delete the YouTube app on my phone as I find myself doom scrolling but other than Online banking and my online food shop and this forum I don't use web sites. The only main internet thing I do is Wow. And that is more sunk cost fallacy than playing for any other reason.

I do often try at least go a month with no internet at least once a year. Like I've mentioned my big pat myself on the back was getting off discord

I probably could, but I'd have to kill the wife and kids for any semblance of peace.

This. I reckon it would take me a few days to readjust but no problem.

Hmm, there's a point, is it like not having a driving licence but you can get your wife to drive you everywhere or are you not allowed to directly benefit?

I basically just read ebooks all day long. As long as I had a lifetime stash of completed stuff I’d be fine. A bit bored, I guess, but fine.

We had to a while back when the storm took the fibre out and most of this end of Scotland was on Openreach's 'to.do' list.

I obviously survived but for the life of me I can't remember what I did during that time.

    Think I've blocked it out

I'd probably die sooner rather than later. Not because I wouldn't be fine without internet, I'd probably just do something stupid that I wouldn't have looked up first.
