He pulls bins out of rivers? Maybe that's why CCC couldn't do it, they had to wait for your dog to turn up

    WIN!

Dammit, now you made me want to get certified to wear wellington boots. It must be the coolest thing in the history of job interviews:
"I see here that you are certified to ... wear wellington boots?"

I see a monty python sketch coming up :)

Ah the joys of health and safety. I bet if someone drove a car into the river next to the bin, the car would be taken out and the bin left there :D

So this is why the rivers are full of junk, they're not allowed to be cleaned! And why does (s)he need a harness in 4" of water? Then you'd need a crane attached to it. I hope someone's suitably embarrassed by this

Because there may be a dangerous undercurrent, or the employee may see a twig in the water which he thinks is a snake, get scared and slip - being dragged dreadful inches away from the position where he entered the water. And what if he gets a booboo? Imagine the horror.

How can you 'wade' in 4 inches of water?

I can imagine the council standing at the bank having a lengthy 'discussion and drawing up actions plans vis a vis the current situation of the refuse collection receptacle' while kids play around on tire swings and making dams and floating home made boats in the stream.

unfortunately if you wade in and clear up the mess you'll probably end up being sued for a year for "posing risk to the environment, personal health and safety."

    seriously this really is depressing

Quick people now is the time to screw the country and local concils, push as main bins into the most shallow you can find. especailly considering there is a wheelie bin shortage!

Health and safety should be renamed to, 'those to dumb to be trusted on there own'.

I agree in the fact the the employee is protected by law against dangerous jobs, but come it goes too far!
