Apple Countdown to Macworld......

Normally, I watch the keynote from work or follow text updates from a rumor site, but I start a new job today and they probably wouldn't like me to spend 1 1/2 hours staring at teh internets......

So, any last minute guesses / predictions?

 

There will be updates to macbooks and mini's to cd2.

Mac pro's will get bumped to dual 4 core cd2.

Leopard will be released.

iTV will be released.

iPhone maybe, long shot that.

 

the mac books are already c2d

i reckon the same though the mac pro's will be even more extreme now!
i think that an update to the iPod video, possibly an alluminium case much like the iPod nano and shuffle

 

I hope that they dont update the macbooks as ive just bought one!

I think they'll realese the iTV but not leapard

 

*Points towards MacRumours* - there is plenty of crap being mulched over there... Odd's on its something new but all the hype will make it seem pretty average.

 

I just want to know about the new ipod

 

I always find that the rumours always sound much more impressive than what apple actually end up releasing, like a video confrencing ichat phone! lol i just find that hard to believe at the moment....

 

My predictions:
iTV, renamed
Dual-quad Mac Pro
True video iPod... maybe
Mini C2D (though a silent bump next week wouldn't surprise me, doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade to mention in the keynote)
Some sort of bump to the MBP line... quad option maybe? or 12" ultraportable
One more thing... Leopard!
and while Steve's keynoting about it, probably during something about syncing, his new iPhone starts ringing and the audience bursts into applause before he even pulls it out

I almost hope the iPhone doesn't come out tomorrow though... I just spent almost a grand on a new SLR so now's a bad time for a new must-have item. Although if it's really just iPod with Phone, I wouldn't be that fussed as I have both already; I'm hoping for more of a smartphone of sorts.

 

I've been thinking about that - an announcement that would be big enough would be "All of our machines are now core 2" or something like that.

 

I also have heard about an total touchscreen device. Like the ones they use on stargate atlantis but an apple version of it

 

i reckon we will see ipod's with hard drives in the 100 gigabyte range, the reason i say this is i saw Toshiba launch 100gb 1.8" hard drives the other month and im pretty sure they are the ones used in the ipod's.

 

It has been confirmed that that part is the same line as the ones in the iPod - apple could sell 100gb pods if they wanted to, so I imagine that you're right.


(Why would anyone want a 100gb iPod? Anyone remember the 'Time Machine' demo from leopard? Imagine that your laptop HD crashes and that after you replace it you can restore to any point in time by just plugging in your iPod.........)

As to a 100GB iPod... forget Time Machine - probably 90% or more of the iPod market sync with PCs. If we see proper video support, it'll chew through HD space insanely fast. My 60GB is nearly full as it is, and all of the videos I have on it are the older 320x240 spec ones (AFAIK, the 1.2 firmware is still causing problems; I don't dare upgrade). That said, Time Machine could certainly be used with it, at least for some data (I'm thinking ~/Documents, ~/Music, ~/Movies and perhaps something that keeps track of serial numbers or activations so reinstalling other software isn't as painful - I don't need thirty gigs of music loops and DVD templates eating up my iPod)

 

Well the iPhone and iTV have been announced.

 

40Gb on Apple TV is a joke.

 

It used to be streaming-only with just a buffer. 40GB is a pretty respectable buffer if you ask me.

But who cares? iPhone!!!!!!!
My life is now complete. That thing looks better than I could have possibly hoped for!

 

Arrg I hate Apple now! I was gonna buy an Xbox360 next week but I really want the iPhone now. Just gotta decide. Think the 360 is more worth it though.
