    Hello everyone.

    I seem to be having a problem with Counter-Strike: Source...Well actually all Source-based games it seems to happen too for me.

    Ok, well here's the problem; I'll be playing Counter-Strike: Source or Day of Defeat: Source, and I'll get 60-160FPS normally on medium settings with some AA on and such, no HDR, no vsync or any of that "fancier" stuff on, simple reflections, low shadows. I'll be playing fine with that FPS, then all of a sudden, it'll drop down to 20-50FPS and stay at there, even if I'm not in combat/lots of people on screen. I don't know why this is happening, my PC should be good enough to withstand the graphics normally, they do any other time.

    PC Specs are;
    Intel Pentium 4 2.6GHz /w HT (Overclocked to 2.834GHz)
    1GB RAM DDR400
    ATI Radeon X800 Pro AGP8x 256MB (Overclocked to 501 Core / 519x2 Memory)
    WD 80GB 7200RPM HDD
    MSI 865PE Neo2 (Motherboard)

    I have all my drivers up to date, DirectX 9.0c installed and everything. My specs beat the recommended specs of Half-Life 2 by far, and I still don't understand why I experince this kind of lag.

    Before anyone asks; I have tried to defragment, virus scan, spyware scan, system restore, delete Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source system files and reinstall, completely un-install Steam, disk cleanup, returning my CPU and GPU clocks to stock, and I've even formatted, and nothing has worked. :waah:

    My friend who has a;
    Athlon XP 2600+ @ 2.13GHz
    nVidia GeForce FX5200
    768MB of RAM DDR266 (I think it's DDR266 or it's DDR333)
    No-name motherboard (pre built PC)
    Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM HDD

    His specs are worse than mine, yet he doesn't experince this lag/slowdown. I don't understand how this could be ><

    If anyone has ever experinced this and/or knows how to fix this, please reply >< I'm out of ideas on trying how to fix it.

    Have you check is any other processes are using up the CPU time when it happens? Sometime MSN goes mental when I'm playing BF2 causing it to lag in a similar way you are talking about.

    I've checked and I've closed all programs except for the windows one and steam, but yet it continues to do this. I don't know what's happening. :waah:

    Have you got intel speed step or any the other power saving things for your CPU disabled ? It could be causing your cpu to drop down in clocks, thus your framerate will drop too.

    Intertesting. My PC oes the same (with source games only) although, MUCH lower framerate. I'd say a good few frames per second (HORRIBLE!)

    I don't have intel speedstep (so it can't be enabled/disabled).

    I believe I they come default disabled, I don't know. Would I check through the BIOs? :x It's really annoying, getting LOW frame for something that I think should easily be able to take it at medium settings. ><;

    heh, I was starting to think it was because I have three monitors on my computer (only one running the game in full screen)
    cs 1.6 runs just fine that way.
