Iv just installed a new heatsink/fan on a friends computer because his old CPU fan had a run in with some power cables, but it is now getting a cpu fan error on startup. I have tried with both the fan in the cpu power socket and also the cpu socket for his fan controller but neither seem to work. Its an old 1.3 duron on an even older motherboard, so im not 100% sure what it is. I think its probably the fact that the mo-board is now getting too low a rpm reading (old fan was stock slim line 70mm fan new one is chunky 80mm) but im not sure how to get off the error screen and get into bios? Strange thing is that I seemed to work when the fan was not plugged in at all but it didn’t like the fan controller…. Anyone got any ideas?

    Il secound that diagnosis.

Has the new fan definately got 3 wires?

Cant you just plug the old fan so you can get in the bios? Also you know for sure that the low rpm is the cause of the problem.

Clearing the cmos might help aswel.

Lemme know if any of that helps :)

yeah i think that might work but pluging the old fan in isnt really an option. iv also been using good old google and aparently pressing F1 or del will work, although im not sure if this is for all motherboards

The bios doesn't have an option to disable the cpu fan warning?

Seems some boards don't like the rpm signal some fans give off.. I have a few case fans that cause the rpm readings to come and go or jump all around like crazy..
