Ok i have a amd 2600+ that i would like to have run cooler. right now it has a regular a socket fan and heat sink. i was wondering weather a new heatsink with a 80mm fan would run cooler or a 80mm fan with a 60mm to 80mm adapter/funnel on my heatsink i own now would run cooler.

Im guessing a 80mm fan cooler would work better because the heat sink would be larger, and most fan adapter cause some turbulance.

How much would you be looking to spend for a new hsf?

I agree. The 80mm HSF will run better and quieter. If you want to spend above that, zalman even makes a 92mm, the heatsink on that is great.
