so my attempts with a drill press failed horribly. no bit i own will even dent it, i dont know what its made of, but its insanely resiliant to drills.

ive tried everything with my P1, i even tried gorilla glueing a loop of copper wire onto it, but nothing works!!! stupid ceramic cpus...

edit* integnious idea! just take some of that thick single piece metal 18 gauge wire, and wrap it around the corners sorta to makea wire holderfor the chip and connect that to a loop of a key ring.

Why use a drill when you can do it easily with a hole punch?!? thats what i did with mine.

Actually I did mine with a jackhammer drill and a concrete drill bit....

I did this years ago (the first time CPU keychains came around) and its been on my keyring all the time, its been used as a screwdriver, box opener (its very good for that) and combined with the little stub of metal on the right of the image CD-Rom getter outta :) Handy holes were already in it, gotta love old school SIMM ram :D

I'd tell you who made it but all the markings have been worn off :)

This is what i've made a few days ago, i had a K-6 before, drilled trough the metal part but the ceramics in the corner broke off but i kept it anyways till the dang writing wore off lol
These are from a slot P2 and a chip from an old apple

Btw you're right the old memory thing works well but a little long to put in a pant pocket loll but could very well be cut in halfAnd forget about drilling trough the brownish ceramics instead go for the black one or the fiberglass like ones

You could also go for your burnt out XP chips lol

Try using a grinding bit on your dremel to start a little dimple (the cone shaped one). Then drill through with a drill.

Any, and i mean any dremel bit :dremel: is like cream cheese on this outer space ceramic(brownish P1 like) especially the grinding stone ones. You can use them to the axle and maybe you'll be able to see a scratch with a magnifying glass :hehe:

Whatever layer the P1 chip has on it is nearly inpenetrable. The core area that sticks out above the rest of the chip can be taken off, but then theres a layer of something under that which just doesn't want to give way. Using a craftsman drill press I tried on low and high speed with regular drill bits, titanium coated metal drilling bits, and milling bits. Nothing will penetrate the P1. I'm now considering making a body armor suit out of the old ones I have. Sheesh.

I've had something PC on my key ring for about 5 years now, mostly RAM, but i find the memory chips eventually come off. So for the last year or so i've had an Intel 2.2Ghz Celleron on my key ring. I found that it was the best option, as in the heat spreader there was a small hole! so all i did was use my dremel rip off to drill through and then force a ring through it for attaching to my key ring. so far it has worked a treat, although the printing on the heat spreader has now worn off and some of the resistors on the back of the chip have come of.

Pictures, these are both 2272x1704 :

I've shot stuff with air rifes and tried blowing stuff up with what ever we could find and make (fireworks, glow fuel etc) but they dont seem to harm the damn things. If i had a fire arms licence i would be very tempted to try shooting a cpu with something a bit more hardcore....

Also some of the newer platters are made of coated glass. I found this out the hard way. Part of my job is to do disposal of old/broken hardware. One of the steps it to wipe the data from the HDs. If I can't wipe it, I get to take it apart and destroy it. Usally I mangle the platters with a pair of pliers. On one I went to bend one, and it shattered into hundreds of really small realy sharp shards. Luckily I didn't get one in the eye.

PS: The magnets in a hard drive are really strong, and fun to play with. Just be careful, some of them can pinch you pretty hard if they slip :)
