I've heard about the rumoured CPU price drops, was thinking of getting a athlon 64 3200+, just wondering when or if the price drop was going to happen, because if it happens soon I might as well go for a higher spec CPU. So just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the matter.
i'd say in a month or so AMD will have a price cuts across the range. BTW its no point getting a 3200+ get a 3700+ minum as they are under £90 in some places.
Price drop will happen around 24th July, when Conroe launches. Check here for pricing:http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3361 the 3200+ looks to be $79
In some places, for some processors, the price drops have happened. Lowestonweb have a 3800X2 for only £120-odd quid inc VAT and delivery, whereas OcUK have all the normal A64's dropped by a substantial amount too. 3000+'s are only £65+del, with the 3500+ in at £79 + del. Pretty good imho.
technically its a dead socket, as newer cpu's are made for AM2 but it still has plenty of life in it i'd give it atlest another year before AM2 will completly take over. 939 will have i believe 2 new cpu's avail but other than that everything is being made for AM2.
If you look at the image in that article, you'll notice a lot don't have prices, those are discontinued CPUs, AMD are producing a small amount to use in case of warranty.
Can people give me suggestions to good Mobos as I can't really tell whats good and reliable to something cr@p! That will go well with CPU: athlon 64 3500+ AM2 socket, for a 7900GT - not too bothered if it is SLi or not for around £70 - £80 or would i have to pay more for a good mobo?
I would stay away from the new MSI K9N motherboards, I have the K9N Platinum non SLI and although being an ok motherboard and having lots of good features it is a little unstable and has lots of issues with RAM, however nothing that can't and won't be fixed with future BIOS updates.
I'm definately going dual core... but I'm not sure if I should go low end and overclock the snot out of it or buy high end and still overclock the snot out of it
It will be 282 $ (acording to http://www.hkepc.com/bbs/itnews.php?tid=633569 (same as on bit's frontpage))
Anyone seen a trustworthy retailer stateside that has the 5000+? I usually use Tiger or Newegg, but both only have 2 X2 AM2's...
im with midnight i want those but they are still at almost $800 want the 300 price drop dont want to bay the other 500
By the time the price drop comes in foe the 939 socket they may well not be many of them left. which is pain in the arse cos i need a new mobo and only have had this processor and ram for a year. (300064 and 512mbddr crucial blastic and thoughts on how much id get if i sold them?)
