Hi, I just installed my brand new core i7 2600k with an Asus P8Z68 -LX However on booting up I get a warning saying cpu is above 85 degrees celsius I've installed all the drivers, removed and reseated the cpu & heat sink etc Whats going wrong here? Thanks
Sounds like something is wrong with the sensor. Even with a shoddy mount, it shouldn't be going anywhere near 85C lol. Have you tried Real Temp or Core Temp once you get to desktop? BIOS temps are often ignored, so if Real Temp or Core Temp give you a good reading of 30-40C idle, I'd just disable temp reporting in the BIOS Hardware Monitor menu.
That's way to high. You used thermal interface material I assume and the fan on the CPU cooler is spinning?
yeah I used arctic silver 5 and the heatsink fan is spinning as normal Ok so real temp says the temps of each core are 30-32 I also keep getting Asus errors saying warning Vcore 0.825 Do u think the mobo is goosed? Thanks
When you say you get a warning on booting up, is this a BIOS or Asus software warning? Asus sofware is best ignored as it doesn't support the new hardware very well (and has always been buggy); stick with Real Temp and you'll never look back. There's nothing wrong with the mobo if the system runs fine without crashing.
I agree I have an Asus Mobo and it flags a warning in BIOS saying PWR Fan is running at too low a speed. I checked that it was running and it was fine. Though thats a preset below a certain rpm warning. I had to set one of the case fans to be ignored as it flagged that all the time.
Well i disabled the cpu temp warning in bios and it booted into windows first time. I'm still getting cpu and Vcore warnings appearing in the bottom of my screen tho. would I have to uninstall assus suite to get rid of these? what's the danger if the cpu over heats (I know it doesn't actually look like it is overheating, but I'm just concerned about turning of all sensors) , will it shut down before it causes damage? BTW, cheers, I was proper unhappy when I booted the first time
I'm just checking my Asus Suite and it has preset warnings in Probe II. Have you checked the actual Vcore settings in Bios? Though when the CPU downclocks when not underload the voltage also drops down. Mine is reading 0.936 though Asus Suite isn't great for getting true readings either. And the alarm preset for Vcore is much lower than that xD
YES - uninstall AI Suite!! It doesn't work well with newer hardware or newer versions of windows... just throws up errors and alarms all over the place. AI Suite was ok with Vista but perfect with XP, and PC probe was a very nice piece of software back in the day with P35/P45 and X38/X48 motherboards... but those days are long gone now The vcore warnings are nothing to worry about (another bug); once you uninstall AI Suite you won't get them again. Where Asus is concerned, always throw the baby out with the bathwater. And you won't be turning off any sensors by uninstalling software. There's absolutely no danger of your CPU overheating if the idle temps are around 30C, and you can always keep Real Temp running in the tray if you want to keep an eye on the temps.
Agreed and on that note I'm going to unistall Asus Suite it's just taking up HDD space minimal I know but once it's gone I wont get annoyed with it or fiddle with settings that I shouldnt.
If you want a nice piece of monitoring sofware, get Everest v 5.5 (which I currently use) or Aida 64, its replacement. I don't think any better monitoring software exists.
ok here's my next problem, the cpu seems to only have a frequency of 1600MHz despite the target being set as 3400 in bios. WTF????? Endless of excitement about receiving my new mobo and processor is quickly deteriorating into panick / dissapointment / annoyance
thats just the cpu downclocking itself to save power, and keep the thermal's low when its not under stress, run prime 95 or something and keep an eye on the frequency and you'll see it spin up to 3.4Ghz
Which is why the voltage seems low but thats just Asus Suite being dumb xD Vcore also drops down when system downclocks! +1
Its ok ! Dont worry When the CPU isnt very busy it down clocks itself to 1600MHz. This automatically reduces the voltage its pulling, and in turn reduces the amount of heat your CPU produces. As soon as you start to do stuff (play games, open applications, anything CPU intensive) that puppy will boost up to 3.7GHz I would recommend getting a program to stress the CPU so that you can monitor the top end temperatures that it peaks at. Just to be sure that the cooler has been mounted correctly. Something like Prime95, running the small FFT test. If your not overclocking dont bother running it for long. 25mins roughly should give you an idea of what the peak CPU temp is. You should aim to keep it under 65c max (in my opinion) Enjoy your nice new kit
Thanks guys, I was running a couple of bench mark tools and had loaded up deus ex 2 and it just trundled away at 1.6Ghz, needless to say the scores were awesomely bad. That coupled with my initial panick about my cpu sitting at 85 degrees n I wasn't happy I've managed to wake her up now tho n all is well/ Thanks again!
