Moo everybody. I was just wondering how many hams we have here on the boards and where you're located. I know Pook and I both are, any others?

yo yo. i am an amateur indeed.

    M3JJM & 2E1JJM

I haven't used my radios in a little while now, my father tends to use them a hell of alot more...but my setup goes something like this:

    yaesu FT1000MP MKV

    yaesu VL1000 linear amp

    yaesu FT736R with 50m 70cm and 23cm modules installed

    kenwood TS2000

as for antennas...my father just bought some wierd HF multiband beam...not really sure what the design is but it looks like a giant washing line!

had a cushcraft R8..dunno if we still have that, might have sold it :S

    and then various VHF dipoles

and a massive wire antenna on an HF smart tuner which is in a triangle formation

also running a DX cluster now, but that's on my dads callsign, GB7WKL

    73's

I'm too young to actually buy large expensive radio equipment, but it seems like a fascinating hobby.

It was the craze before the internet croped up. From between the ages of 14 - 17 i was well into my CB radios and HAM comunications.

    Pork pie international!

Then the internet came along, which wasent so bad, but when Quake2 came out that was it, my life was down the pan.

My electronics teachers have their call signs as their coustom liscence plates. I like a cb on the freeway to get a heads up from truck drivers but thats all I would use it for.

Well, I'm not a Ham, but my group here at NASA handles the Ham Radio stuff for the Space Station. Here is some information about ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station). The page lists the frequencies and the call signs for the current Station crew, and they regularly make unscheduled contact with people all over the world.

Figured you Hams might be interested, seeing as this is a tech forum ;)

My old man is a ham radio enthusiast, althoug he's not used his gear in a while. I know he's got a Kenwood 590 and another old Kenwood TS 830s up in the loft I think. I wanted to get into it many years ago when I was a kid, but well computers and the internet got in the way and that was the end of that.
