According to slashdot, a crack for the microsoft update as well as the other crack. This seems to let you install the microsoft update without it checking the cd key.

Microsoft "Genuine Advantage" cracked in 24h: window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all'
AV sez, "This week, Microsoft started requiring users to verifiy their serial number before using Windows Update. This effort to force users to either buy XP or tell them where you got the illegal copy is called 'Genuine Advantage.' It was cracked within 24 hours."
Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:
    javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

I actually have a legit version of windows XP, but have *another* version installed. The reason is I change the hardware in my pc regularly and format my pc at least every 3mths just so it's always up to top performance.

After 3 times having to phone microsoft to register my new components I just gave up, was just too much hassle.

I think ms is just making half ass efforts to contain the issue with their pirated software. They make enough money on their corp edition and the people who run into Best buy and pick up copies of XP Pro and Office 2003. Personally over 300 bucks for a word processor, spreadsheet, powerpoint ect. is re****uous. So I got mine free :hip: :thumb: :D

If you wish to admit to having pirated versions, feel free. Just don't complain if we have to give your details to Microsoft when their lawyers ask for them...

from the age of 14 i decided that i should buy my OS and my programing suite (NT x + Visual studio x) just incase i ever make something worth a lot of money, so i can't get sued.

Admitting to pirating on a public forum is damn stupid. And i'm constantly amazed by the creativity of stupid people, so surely one day you might make something worth something just to have macromedia/adobe/MS sue you?

woulden't you go out and purchase the real thing if you knew somthing that you had created was going to make it big?

*the other guy might have got his free from another source such as a gift from a relative or from his place of employment or education. But I would be very carefull if you are suggesting that you have ilegal things on a public forum. :worried:

dosen't matter, some code i sold, must of been about the 6th attempt before it was 'just right' so its about the whole thing. If they say that you've been using pirated at all, they've been known to fleace you.

More 'cracks' are being found - deleting DLLs installed by WGA and such from windows/system32 also appears to disable it!

Also, apparently by disabling the WGA plug in after installing it in IE6's add-on manager it will also circumvent the checks :D

My favourite workaround, that's fantastic for totally legitimate installations since you don't have to install any ActiveX controls or download GenuineCheck.exe and type in the code saving the people who have actually paid for their copy of Windows, is the use of a small piece of JavaScript that sets a cookie to expire sometime far in the future that disables the WGA check, and since it's a cookie it doesn't need entering again and again.

I've tested it in IE, Firefox and Opera, and it works great.

I tried the disabling the ActiveX control trick, but I didn't like the balloon popping up telling me it was disabled. The cookie trick is much less intrusive, you don't even need to have the control installed on your PC. :thumb:

I see that with an msndnaa subscription i could get 'cutting edge' oses for a price of $700 or so, but you allude to something much cheaper, what am I missing?

    Open www.microsoft.com in any browser.
Paste the following into the address bar and hit enter.
Take out the space in validation, when posting one gets inserted, which is most annoying.

Now go to the Download Center and try to download something with a gold symbol by it, instead of the yellow box saying "Validation Required" it should give you a blue box with "Genuine Microsoft Software" in the title and a Download button.

    Enjoy! :thumb:

If you don't want to fork out for an MSDN subscription, another way to get loads of legitimate Microsoft software is to sign up as a Microsoft Partner and get your hands on the Partner Action Pack through subscription. For only £199+VAT you get all that.

You should use this one instead:
(Remove space in 'validation'). It's more flexible, plus it works better in IE (which didn't like the date format and only set it as a session cookie).

You're welcome for finding this, by the way. :D
