Well, I recently got my AC rev.3 on my 9800Pro AIW, and have been OCing it for a few days. Today I was benchmarking and OCing, and got it safely to 425/760 completely stable. So, I open up CS:S, and lo and behold; crazy, wicked artifacting. Oh well, so I lower the clocks. Same thing. Default clocks: same thing. Completely cleaned all the old drivers off and reinstalled, same thing. I'm completely baffled by this... And I do mean crazy: Any input?
That looks to me more like whacked textures than artifacting... artifacts are usually random shapes and chunks that show up. More like that That's what you get from frying your NF4 chipset
That looks depressingly familiar I may be wrong, but it could be damaged VRAM. (So I've heard tell) - H.
Hmm... Firehead, you may be right. These weird textures only happen in Steam games, but happen in ALL Steam games. Benchmarks, other games, and ATi Tool all show no artifacts or anything. Settings are 1280*1024, 4x AA, 4x AF, high settings on everything else. Tried knocking all the settings to default, however, and all this still happened. May try a complete reinstall of everything Steam and see if it doesn't fix it.
I have tried every single AA/AF setting in CS:S, and can't get it not to artifact. The weird thing is that I can run 3Dmark03 in a 5-loop string, and it doesn't artifact a bit. Same with UT2k4. I run it on it's highest possible settings for everything, at 1280*1024, and nothing after an hour of gaming. Tried reinstalling all the drivers again, tried with the ATi Catalyst Control Panel and without, tried everything I can think of. So, I guess I have to reinstall CS:S and Steam and such, then....
Try running 3Dmark2005, it may be a DX9 problem with drivers or something.... well, it's something to try
OK. I have tried absolutely everything I can think of for this damned card. Completely wiped all trace of every driver in my system, and reinstalled them all. Reinstalled everything Steam related. Reinstalled SP2. Ran every benchmark and test I can find, and my system runs them. Completely uninstalled everything ATi and media related. Everything. With an FX5700 Ultra, the game runs fine (well, as fine as it will on that card). My card in a different system runs completely fine. But, this 9800Pro AIW, my system, and hl2 absolutely WILL NOT work together! I just don't get it... I'm gonna go ahead and do a completely OS reinstall. If that doesn't fix it, this thing's getting chucked out into the snow...and never getting retrieved EDIT: Well, I tried the only thing I hadn't right before reinstalling -- Uninstalling Winamp. Voila! Problem solved. wtf? EDIT2: GAH! Just kidding...it didn't work. Looks like it's back to a reinstall for me...
what about corrupted/incorrect/damaged video bios....cause i had a friend with a problem like this and no matterwhat he unistalled and reinstalled it wouldn't work except for when he put it in a new comp....so he RMA'd it and they told him that it was corrupted vidoe bios.......just a possibility
This could be it. I wanted to avoid RMAing the card, simply because I didn't want to go through the hassle, so we'll see. If it's not fixed after this reinstall, I don't think I have a choice.
*head explodes* Well, after a complete wipe of my hard drive (we're talking I wrote completely random 1's and 0's to this bitch before I reinstalled), it's still giving me this: Now, I've heard that the Cat 4.12's work better with 9800Pro's than the 5.2's, so I'll give those a try. Following what K.I.T.T said, does anyone know of downloadable BIOS for my 9800Pro AIW? EDIT: Just thought it might be worth mentioning that on both the reinstalls, the Catalyst Control Panel absolutely refuses to work. No matter which drivers I use, or how I set them up, I get "CLI.exe Error" every time it tries to initialize... Oh, and I found a BIOS file for this card, but it's a .bin file...Any ideas on what I'm supposed to DO with this thing (other than open it in Notepad and look at the pretty symbols ) last edit: I got the damned thing working. Flashed the BIOS, and..amazing..it works. Thanks K.I.T.T. for the advice
