I ran the performance test on FEAR with the following settings:

    1280x1024
    Max everything
    4x/16x

    Minimum Framerate: 28
    Average Framerate: 53
    Maximum Framerate: 120

No problems, no errors, no artifacts

I then decided just for the heck of it to turn off AA and put on Soft Shadows and run the test again. It started, and instantly went to artifact hell on me. I reached for the reset button, and before I could get my finger on the button the comp froze and blue-screened me.

I reset it and there were no problems. Booted fine, everything is normal. I then ran the performance test again on my original settings. Ran fine. No problems whatsoever.

So why do soft shadows put my videocard into suicide mode?

91.31 Sorry for the long response. Made the topic at night before bed, then I had to work.

EDIT: Updated to the latest drivers and ran the test with soft shadows again, and it didn't screw up on me. That's the good news...

    Minimum Framerate: 28
    Average Framreate: 46
    Maximum Framerate: 85

Much worse performance (yet still, not bad) but the lack of AA meant lower overall image quality. Oh well.
