I was wondering, what sort of internet connection would be best to create an internet server. I want to setup an interenet server, charge for filespace etc. etc. I'll be making the server software myself, so thats ok. I just dont know how you connect to the (backbone?) internet at a sufficient speed for a mass server.

The only commersial options available in my area are ADSL @ 1MB per sec w/ unlimited bandwith (€170 per month). Though, I dont know how you would connect to the internet (at high speeds) without using a commersial 'supplier'. This would be for a number of websites (possibly hundreds?), filespace is easy to get but how fast would it have to be per website?

what your looking for iz either a leased line or a colocated server somewhere

but as it looks like your not sure what u want your probally better off with a managed or dedicated server

It's going to be expensive for you to get the kind of speed you need at your house. A better idea would be to use colocation services, where you build the server then send it to an ISP and they will put it in their rack in a datacentre and give you like 150mbits of pipe (if you pay for it).
