Hey, After a little advice on creating a virtual machine for linux to run in inside windows. Been giving it a google and there are a few options. windows virtual PC will it run on home premium and is it any good will it support linux? I also found virtualbox any feed back on that would be great. also if there any other good open source ones out there that you guys can recommend that would be great. I'll be looking at running a 32bit enviroment with in a 64 Again thanks
I personally use and recommend VMware Server 2.0. VMware Player would work too. Both free, all you have to do is register on vmware.com and download it, then they give you a free product key for it.
VirtualPC as far as i remember will not run an install of linux, or any other OS non windows based. Any of the VMWare options are good. I use http://www.virtualbox.org/ It can run 64 bit OS,s and i found it doenst mess my dual network cards up like other Virtual machines. You can actually download pre configures virtual hard drives. Have a look on the linux site you want to use see if they do a virtual machine that u can use. Oh and one thing to watch for. Some of the programs virtual HD images wont run on MS Virtual machine. you can get a converter but there pretty poor.
Hey, Thanks for the feed back, I'll give all recomended a try and post back if it all goes wrong Thanks
I find it unnecessary to buy VMWare as pretty much everything that VMWare offers, Virtual Box offers. Although Virtual box's file sharing is different because you need to setup shared folders.
I find it unnecessary to buy VMware, because its free. Even the ESXi I run on my dedi-server to make it into a VPS is free.
You can run linux on Virtual PC or VMware Player. However linux on virtual PC isn't officially supported, so there may be some problems (I didn't have any, but theres chance not all linux OS works well on virtual PC). Both Virtual PC and VMware Player are free, and for about one year now I only use VMware Player.
Hey all, Ended up using virtualbox and got the install and tools done fine but having issues the getting the wireless up and running. It works fine when i run it as a live CD. Its a USB wifi and i'm not sure what im missing
