It's '1' better than an iPod mini... This from elReg:

Creative launched its Zen Micro "iPod Mini challenger" last night, as anticipated.

The compact, 5GB unit will "outshine all the others", the company said, with it 12 hour battery life, FM radio with 32 station pre-sets, voice recorder and PDA-style personal information management functionality.

Not to mention a wide range of casing colours. Like the razor market's obsession with the number of blades on offer - 'Four blades? F**k 'em, we're going to five' - digital music player vendors are increasingly viewing colour choice as the key distinguishing feature between their products.

The Zen Micro comes in a choice of ten colours, double the "previous generation" - as Creative calls it - iPod Mini's five: silver, black, red, orange, green, pink, purple, white, light blue and dark blue.

Hmm. I think if anyone's gonna buy it, it needs to be a lot cheaper than the iPod mini. Most of the people that buy these things don't care about battery life, wma support etc. It's all about style.

    [Spinal Tap Disbelief Mode]

    But it's '1' Gb better!!!

    :D

But I know what you're saying. It may have more storage, better battery life, more colour choice etc, WMA (bleugh!) support and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope..... But it's still not an iPod. :)

[RANT] Now an mp3 player that lasted long enough to see a weeks worth of use before I have to recharge/replace the battery, THAT would be an innovation. [/RANT]

I'm sorry but until they can get more than 40hrs of battery life out of one of these gadgets I'm not buying :eyebrow:

Unless your anal about battery life I dont see why someone would spend 280$ usd for a 5gb product when you can get a 20 gb ipod for 300. Thats 3 times the space for only 20 dollars more.

Its almost the same exact situation that the ipod mini is right now vs standard ipod. The price gap isnt big enough to bother with the lower end product. There is even some cases where people are paying less for the standard ipod then the mini by using stacking coupons.

    5x3=20 ? :D

I know what you mean, but amongst fashionable style kids (Lets face it, they're the main market for these), the mini is great as it's smaller, lighter, more colourful, "cooler". People like that don't have that much music anyway. As long as it can play the latest <insert cool artist here> album, no-one cares.

As for the creative being "1 better", I just don't think that'll be enough. Although I do feel compelled to show you the T-shirt that I'm wearing right now :D

    nice shirt :thumb:

one thing i've never understood is the different colour thing. my Zen lives in the inside pocket of my jacket. it only comes out to be sync'd or if i'm backing up drivers. why do you need it to be a different colour.no-one is going to see it ever. if you do show it off to everyone you're going to get mugged by some dick'ead chav.

Do they have a removable battery like the Zen? Thats one thing that threw me off ipod, if I'm paying for a MP3 player I want a battery that can be replaced if it breaks. I got a 20GB Creative Zen touch instead.

Theres no way a solid state drive that size would be that cheap. Its a hard drive.

Ipod mini is not solid state, and I expect the muvo you mentioned isn't either.

After some searching I found out the Muvo2 uses microdrive technology, which is a mini hard drive.
