Bah, the Zen interface needs work. No scroll wheel? What were they thinking!? :duh: How am I going to scroll through my unmanageably large collection of Ayumi Hamasaki mp3s without a nice little scroll wheel? Not to mention that anything that supports WMA has got to be crap. At least it's like that in my books. I'm sure that all the microsoft fanboys out there will try to tell me off, but try and tell me that you really notice a difference between WMA and MP3 and OGG on those cheap little earbuds that come with this stuff.

So if you can't tell the difference between MP3 and WMA, why do you hate WMA? I can tell the difference between mp3 and WMA, WMA is all horrid and crackly at low volumes. Might just be windows media player being **** at encoding though. But I certainly wouldn't hold it against the player for supporting other file types.

    Come on.

Guys, those little compact flash cards that say 4GB on them are microdrives. If they could make solid state memory that dense dont your think our computers would benefit from this technology? We would just have huge banks of the stuff inside our cases.

I was under the impression that the Zen Touch did not have a removable battery. If it doesnt, your argument against iPod is voided.

BTW, I have a 30Gb Zen Xtra which I want to use to throw at other crappy electronics. I have had so much trouble with this thing. I have had it replaced 3 times now. :duh:

You can remove the battery yourself, but it voids the warranty. Creative say they will take it in and replace it for you for a cost (its got to be cheaper than buying a whole new player when the battery fails). That page is for the Zen touch, but if you want to look up yours you will see exactly the same.

As for your experience, what was so bad about it? Toms hardware and all other reviews I have looked at for that player say it is a quality player.

Yeah I bought one the other day and dropped it within hours of getting it :duh:

When it didn't turn on, I was worried, but then I took the battery out, reseated it and it sprang into life (Phew). It actually spent a few minutes "Rebuilding libraries" before it would play again though.

I have heard of some trouble with them though, my girlfriend has one and she has trouble whenever the battery's completely run-down, it doesn't like recharging :eyebrow: But it eventually changes its mind.

Yeah, a mate of mine had an old Zen and he had trouble with and had it replaced. Worked a charm after that though. Got the iRiver H-120 myself, solid player and the best audio quality of them all. iPods suck unless u like the yuppy, "i want to be mugged" look - it's all about a status symbol that's jammed in a pocket/on a belt under jacket 99.9% of time.

List of Zen troubles, btw, I am THE most careful person electronics. I either keep them in the case or absolutely safe(never removed film off of any of the said players screens). Never scratched never dropped.

    1. Headphone jack broke, produced sound out of only 1 side, replaced under extended warranty
    2. Front panel would pop off when you picked it up, or put it down. Replaced under warranty
    3. Headphone jack broke, and front panel issues again(less severe). I'm still talking to the issurance people for my extended warranty to see if I can get a full refund. Gonna buy either the zen touch, maybe iRiver, maybe iPod(New gen with the click wheel)

I didn't say that I can't tell the difference, I said that I can't tell the difference on crappy earbuds. On my speakers or on my nice Sony DJ Headphones, sure, there's a difference, espescially as you noted at low volumes. Not to mention that windows media player is such a terrible and buggy player in itself.
