I've recently bought a new rig just for gaming and overclocking. Works great and I've manage to get a groovy overclock with my e6400. However, I can't help feeling that my cpu has more to offer as its still only running at 44 degrees full load. The Northbridge however, is a different story and its scalding hot in use. I'm using a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 board and a Freezer 7 Pro so there's very little room for a bigger northbridge cooler. What should I do?
the picture is too small to really see I'm getting my 965 DS3 to go along with my e6400 end of the week. what sort of overclocking we lookin at?
nice oc im hoping to get my 6300 just to a nice 2.5 so i can match an amx fx-62, just wondering did you up your volts at all? im using a ds3 also and i have the same cooler and i totally agree with you the freezer 7 leaves NO room for the n bridge, its practicly almost touching.
I'm on 1.4 volts cpu and +0.2v for the mem. What are you planning to do to cool the northbridge (if you are going to)
Looks like Conroe has some OC potential, if i was OC'ing and had a Hot Northbridge i would simply Watercool it, you could try Liquid Nitrogen that would keep it cool, oh yea, keep everything else cool as well Sam
As a newcomer to the PC building 'scene' I don't really have the money or in fact guts to attempt to water-cool my pc. I have thought about it though and I may have to resort to that.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835116018 think that would fit? not so sure since our heatsink is huge
Whats the problem exactly? Although you've got a hot-to-touch NB, that doesn't mean much. If the computer is still stable, you've got nothing to worry about, the heatsink is doing its job.
if its too hot it might shorten the life of the chip and NB hsf's are cheapish and not that hard to install (try and get a good passive hsf as the 40mm fans can die) http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod4118.htm this one can have a fan installed if you need the extra cooling or just be passive
