I'm building a new machine specifically for 3DS Max, Photoshop, Zbrush etc. very little of ANYTHING else. I'm was hoping to get some critique on the build. I'm using some components from my old PC so I'm really just looking for critique on the new components. I've included my old hardware for reference.

    Buying
    Mother board: MSIX99S Gaming 7
    CPU cooler: Corsair hydro H100i
    CPU: Intel I7 5960X
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 760 OC 4GB
    RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw (32Gb)

    Already have:
    PSU: Corasir axi 1200 watt
    Case: Xclio wind tunnel
    HDD: Samsung 256GB SSD
    secondary: 3x WD 500gb drives

    Thanks for the help.

You've pretty much selected the best of the best there.

You aren't going to find a single unit consumer cpu with more grunt.

    Two things though:
    1. The Nvidia GTX 960 should be launching soon. This should perform similary to a gtx 770 if the other 900 chips are anything to go off. Should also be much more efficient and cooler. Who knows if they'll launch it with 4gb VRAM though.

    2. You could give a boost to photoshop at least by adding in another SSD for it to use as a scratch disk. You wouldn't need that large a one since you'll have plenty of RAM. If you are going to be using this machine often for editing it might also be nice to have the extra fast storage for files you are currently working on.

Thanks david. i appreciate the input.

    in responce to your points:
    1. generally, i believe Nvidia release 2Gb version of their cards then the 4Gb versions later on. I really need to have this built and functioning by the end of net week, unfortunatly i dont have time to wait :(

    2. ill give an additional SSD a bit of thought but my scratch drives tend to take an absolute hammering. i wouldnt like to put an expencive SSD through that.

One thing i am considering now is swapping out the Ripjaws 4 for much cheaper crucial RAM. ive worked out that i can double the quantity for the same price. That and the fact that its murder trying to source them. :)

Hi why not just get a 970 as they are the same price range as a 760 4gb

They're 25% more from what i can see. Ill do some research though they dont look (on paper) that much better than the 760 but need to find some bench marksbfor the two. Thanks for the tip.

First things first - have you re-seated all of the components? Updated the BIOS to the latest version? Run memtest?

Sorry if it looks like I'm trying to teach you to suck eggs, but it's worth checking these things first off :)

What are the temps like on the H100i? It could also be temp related, but I would expect that you would get temp warnings if this was the case.

Molex/Sata power plugged into the H100i?
