The only thing I see that should be "fixed" is the placement of the search button. At the very least, it should be moved down a few pixels so that it's not touching the search field. Better, I think, would be to figure out a way to put it after the search field. (FYI - I'm using firefox 2.0.0.3 on mac os 10.4.9)
I like the general look and really like that it is more compact than the previous one. I still scroll down, but at least it isn't multiple screens. I wouldn't mind a background behind the news feed to make it a little more obvious that those items all belong to the same "block". other than that, I like it and it seems like it would suit well for a sports site.
Minor validation errors - you've probably validated it already, but have since changed a few things. In Firefox 2.0.3 (Vista) everything seems fine too. The page looks fine, the only thing putting me off it is the amount of blue - possibly change the background blue to another colour? As it doesn't appear to sit well next to the darker blue.
