In an twist, if Steve had ever thought about how he would die, this is probably his ideal death (so to speak) doing what he loved and by the creatures he so admired.

    RIP
And to think, an inch in any direction, and he would have blown it off and jumped right back in as soon as he could dodge the docs.

    Steve Irwin....... Farewell

I don't see why people feel the need to take the piss out of dead people. It really isn't funny, and a bit sick.

I feel bad for his wife, she was off hiking in the mountains when it happened and no one has any idea where she might be exactly. I wonder if they have found her or have found a way to get in touch with her to tell the bad news.

The guy was crazy, and did alot of work for animals, but even Steve himself had to know that he was going to die someday early in his life. You can only wrestle with a bunch of dangerous animals before your finally bit/stung/stabbed/poisoned.

    R.I.P. Irwin.

I however really would like to see the footage of him getting stabbed. It seems kind of impossible to be stabed, in the heart, by a stingray. Bad luck for a an awesome guy. :/

I logged in to Guild Wars last night & some dude(tte) was shouting the news all over "town" - (s)he said to check Yahoo & I did - the story had been posted just 7 minutes before. I have to admit that my first thought was a little like JADS But, regardless what I may have thought of the nut lovable nut, he's one of those people you can point to & say that he made the world a little bit better place.

    Stingray....
Equipped with venom-coated razor-sharp barbed or serrated tail, up to 20cm long.

thats like being stabbed with a serrated kitchen knife with poison across the blade.
That isnt a pain free way to die :(

but i guess it was in a way a nice way to go... killed by a creature which is supposed to be docile.

They aren't docile, they just don't fight unless scared. There was a cameraman to its front and Mr. Irwin to its rear, so it obviously felt under attack.

    Had to post it.

What are the chance of someone getting one in the heart though?

God must of had a plan.

It's pretty sick to see you already spreading jokes about his death and esseintailly calling him an idiot.

One of the things I really hate to see is the number of people who call Steve Irwin "stupid." Could you do the kind of stuff he does with snakes and crocodiles and survive for as long as he did? I dispise how popular culture fails to see that what Steve Irwin did took a large amount of knowledge and skill. Really, it seems his death was not so much stupidity as it was simply bad luck. I mean stingrays apparently don't claim many lives. . .

    I will miss Steve Irwin.

Although I wholeheartedly agree with you that some humour is pretty tasteless, and those who call him stupid should hardly talk, I do think that the man took extraordinary risks. Calculated risks, perhaps; risks based on skill, knowledge and experience, but risks nonetheless, and risks that were avoidable. He did not have to go dancing with crocs or swimming with stingrays. He made a choice, and he paid the price.

When you marry and have children, your life is not your own anymore. What you decide and do becomes inextricably linked to the lives and fates of several other people who care about you, and in case of your children, need you. You have responsibilities. You have sacrifices to make. Your job or ambitions can be amongst those, but your life, not fully belonging to you anymore, cannot. I regret his passing, but my compassion lies with his family.
