HI guys im new to this forum but had been posting on the cpc forum for a while till it closed Anyway i have a 1gb 4870 and have been thinking of either getting a second to crossfire or replace the card with the new gtx275 and gonig down the sli route. what should i do?? my current spec is: i7 920 @4.2ghz Gigabyte EX58 UD3R Corsair 6gb 1600mhz RAM Thermalright ultra 120 extreme 1366 Push/pull (2xNoctua fans) Sapphire 1 gb 4870 Antec 1200 Antec truepower 850 Samsung 2053BW 20" @ 1680x1050 (might upgrade to 24")
Err, well, you could ditch the 4870 and replace with a 4870X2, this means you would use less PCI-E and power connectors. If you want to go down the SLi route, you would need two GTX275s, so you'd be better off with a GTX295... Both cards will crush most games into submission.
The 275's are More Powerful Cards, but also Cost more. If your SLIing 2 275's, you may aswell get a 295, its cheaper, and essentially the same (A 275 is half a 295 really). The Difference between 2 4870's and the 4870X2 isnt that big, and you already have one 4870, so i would get that.
I Would get this http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-...R5-GPU-750MHz-800-Cores-2x-DL-DVI-I-HDTV-HDCP Or this http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1792...z-GDDR3-GPU-576MHz-480-Cores-2x-DL-DVI-I-HDMI Its pretty obvious which route to take....
That's certainly the cheaper option, but you'd better make sure there's enough room in your case. You mention no sound card so should be ok. Don't forget you'll need another six pin and eight power connector so will be more expensive to run in the long term.
I know. I can't believe either. They've gotta be making loss, haven't they? You could buy one and resell it at a profit..!
You could sell your 4870 for around ~£100, so i would go with the X2, should of checked the prices first.
i don't think so because look at novatech http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?XFX-4870X2
Or save the hassle of selling the 4870 and get one of these at £140 and get the same performance as the X2. I know it's already been linked but it's a seriously good deal.
The single 1GB 4870 you got is more than fine for any game at your res. I got a 512MB card and it doesn't struggle with anything at 1920x1200. To upgrade to 2 GTX275's over Crossfire 4870's would be entirely pointless as you'd have to sell your 4870 at rather large loss (considering what they can be bought for new now) and you wont notice the extra power they'd provide (which isn't much anyways).
I probably will just go for another 4870. i want to play crysis wrhead at maximum and it tends to lagg just slightly also i just want to spend more money on my machine!!!!!!
A 4870 gives, what, 85-90% of the power of a GTX 275? So why spend over double the money replacing your graphics system entirely for that extra 10-15% of performance? Go with the 4870. - Diosjenin -
