    Hello everyone.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with some old CRT monitors?

I currently have two 17” displays in storage with the original packaging. They’re both around 10 years old, manufactured by CTX and have flat displays. They’re both working but their bezels have some yellowing. One has a Sony Trinitron tube and the other has some mystery tube. The Trinitron has those annoying damper wires – if you’ve ever used one, you’ll know of the horrors of which I speak!

The obvious thing to do is throw them away as I’m not going to use them ever again and they’re taking up some space I could probably use for something else.

I have thought about listing on them eBay but the completed listings don’t exactly inspire confidence, especially considering the cost of posting them and their fragile nature. Would anyone still buy these? Possibly for some niche application?

I suspect many of you have been in a similar situation. If so, what did you do with your CRTs?

Thank you for any responses. :)

They make amazing space heaters in the winter! You could convert them into oscilloscope. Otherwise I would sell them for cheap price/free for pick up or something if you really want to get rid of them. Some of retro computing enthusiast may like them to complete retro vibe over using modern lcd screens.

    Put them on Freecycle?

My 19" Sony Trinitron is still sitting in my parents' loft...

The trinitron might be worth something to people who appreciate CRT. Old school console gamers prefer CRT to LCD as it reminds them much more of the time they had, LCD's are to clear and unforgiving.
