    hey guys,

decided to upgrade my monitor in time for the new year. And im stuck on using a tft or a crt... i have plenty of space on my desk for a crt so size isnt really an issue. I kinda know what i need for a tft, but i dont have a scoob for a crt. What i need is:

black, 1600x1200, 19" and it should be under £200.

If anyone can give me any suggestions that would be great. I'm gonna mainly be using this monitor for gaming, photography and video editing. So it has to give a good picture.

:thumb: TFTs are really becoming very desirable with prices coming down, pixel refresh rates going down and with both brightness and contrast improving. The biggest downside is still being stuck to the native res as this can really make things difficult for reading/surfing and optimising gaming. I would have thought 1280 on a 19" TFT would be a more agreeable size for the majority of things but then 1600x1200 should scale perfectly down to 800x600 should you require it. I don't think 800x600 would look too great on a 19" TFT but at least it does present more flexibility. Your call really, see what you can get, £200 seems too tight for a 19" TFT, perhaps fine for a good 17" though (but not with 1600x1200).

I'm still not impressed enough with TFTs to make the switch. I have a pair of 17" trinitrons, an MAG15, and a few other smaller CRTs, and I prefer them greatly.

If you've got the deskspace, and don't move your monitor around too often I really don't see the need for a tft.

For all practical purposes, unless youre running in a tight space and bling means a lot to you, at this time there are no benefits in having a TFT display. They constrain you down to native resolution, are very difficult to make good application layouts for, and often times they are just plain annoying. And even worse, 1280x1024 is everyone's favorite resolution. 1600x1200 doesnt appear until the 20" varieties, and those cost approximately 600 pounds :wallbash:. Id stick with the CRT option easily.

:D The Iiyama Vision Master PRO455 19" CRT for £147. It uses the superb Diamondtron M2 tube which offers a SuperBright mode, absolutely ideal for games and video. I seem to remember these winning a bunch of awards a year or two ago, prices have really come down since then!

:( I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than buy from eBuyer but the choice is yours.
