Windows Crysis WARHEAD - An Ironman Videothrough (COMPLETE)

I'll need to experiment with various methods of encoding to get the balance of detail/size right. next task is to see what i can do about getting smoother capture at a higher resolution without having to resort to hardware.

 

Is there any way you can record a 'demo' of it, like you can in COD4? You can then run the level trough a player, and record with something like X-Fire, and you can keep the resolution up. The gameplay won't be effected either.

 

I dont believe there is, I remember there being talk of people wanting one for multiplayer but I dont think anything ever came of it

 

Hmmm, you use FRAPS to record the game yeah? It could be worth trying x-fire, may help...

Haha, the site isn't the best...but the app and recording isn't overly bad, I've used it a few times, and it's been ok for me.

 

depends on what you were recording tbh, I shall experiment later on today after I defrad my gaming pertition.

 

You do have a point about difficulty, developers fear making the game hard because they want it to sell.

This is why I absolutely love the STALKER games, it's quite hard, but at the same time you feel like a part of the game once you get into limbo with it.

 

just done the 1st level, going to experiment with compression rates, it doesnt help that im trying to preserve as muich detail as possible yet still keep it at a respectable size :/

 

ok ive got a problem, uncompressed the first file weighs in at 97gig, thats at 800x600@30fps

I have no frakkin idea how best to crush that down to a reasonable size, divx looks like shite, xvid doesnt come out too happily either. I grabbed a cheap ass mp4 tool with about as many options as as spanner (not many) and that chucked it out at 1.2gig.

any ideas? video editing aint my strong point

 

vdub and the h264 codec, set bitrate to about 4000kbits and see what you get

 

i can play back h264 media but vdub doesnt list the codec in the compression options

Right, got it! the h.264 compression is sorted and I've bitch slapped Fraps into playing far nicer with Crysis then it did with Warhead.

Love the walkthroughs, but I'm having issues with the third, fifth, sixth, and seventh videos showing as corrupted in two different unzipping programs (WinRAR, and PowerArchiver)... I tried downloading the fourth one two other times, both with the same result.

Anyone else had this issue? I'd like to finish the vids!

 

im not aware of any issues, im pulling down the 4th file now to check it out

Interesting... No clue what the issue would be then. Maybe I'll try downloading them again after work today. If it still doesn't work, I guess I'm just not meant to watch them!

 

Just finished all the videos! Seriously brilliant stuff - I'm even tempted to plonk down some money on Steam to get Warhead even though I have it back at home (since I won't be able to install it for a few weeks, and because I never managed to finish it).
