Actually, I think this is slightly scripted. You know that video where the tyres are shot out and the car rolls.... Well, that's what the car is trying to do when it pitch poles onto its nose like you mentioned. Unless you're going straight on flat ground it doesn't work. I've often found the car trying to roll over dramatically when a tyre gets shot out but I know how to counteract so it just ends up slowly flopping onto its side as if there was a major clipping issue and then rolling back onto it's wheels. Basically, I'm not sure its a physics issue, more of a feature they showed in a video not really being in the game so they decided to bodge it together. It's a shame really, because if you chuck a nade under a car it does exactly what I think they are trying to do.

i know i've already commented, but i just played the full version and its awesome, played on a 3.54mhzconroe with 4gigs of ram and a 2900xt, full setting and x4 aa, will try x8aa later but have to wash the car before it gets dark. It ran perfectly and they even kept the bubbles from far cry, awesome. so much attention to detail its great, coming out of water, the run of water created as the visor clears itself is awesome, just like a snorklying mask does in real life, nice work crytec. Controls are handy but a touch different with new buttons being used as there are more features, i think i read that the suit can be more trouble than its worth or soemthing in the review, but its awesome i think, easy to use and great for moving into a stronger position to attack 20 koreans from.

Actually another point it gets weird is when you try to drive over a knocked over tree. Even when a hummer or tank even should be able to scramble over it just gets stuck.

@ Joe: Excellent review, no dout about that. An idea for you regarding to what you said:
".....This is something which is quite hard to screenshot consistently unless you’ve got the reflexes of a cat, so, although I’ve done my best, you may have to take these screenshots with a small pinch of salt......"
FRAPS, screenshot settings to 1 per second, hit the button and fire. Don't forget to press it again when you are done, otherwise you find a couple of hundred screenshots in the FRAPS folder after a a few minutes :-D.
@ mrb no1: I don't want to call you a liar, but for I have read in many reviews, it looks like you are the first person who is able to play it with those specs and that surprises me, particularly with that video card. (H)ardOCP tried with extreme core and the HD3870 which is quite a bit faster then yours and they...well....it's a bit different from what you are reporting: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQxOSw0LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

But hey...my experiences with hardware are sometimes different to the reviewers as well, so no offense.

    Regards

    Bernhard

Well, what I can tell you from my experiences with the demo is that you can run it around 20-30 FPS average on my system at 1280 with high details. Not that it would go any higher than 40 in any scene or environment. Then again I read Crysis is not that much of a CPU-related game so your quad core might give you 2-5 fps more. Which actually is quite a lot given the low FPS we're talking about here.

Did you not read in the review how the physics is run off the CPU?

I play most games on my TV now. Because of the lower res (1360 x 768) I can usually play games on much higher settings than the game recommends for my system. With the crysis demo I was able to stick everything on Very High apart from post processing which I set to medium. On a TV you don't need to bother with the anti aliasing either. I get a pretty solid 30 - 40 FPS with lows of around 25 (sounds like a weather report :p). I've got a Q6600, 8800 GT, 4GB of Ram (on 32 bit vista though so it only shows 3.2GB :()

It is an awesome looking game. I remember playing Far Cry and thinking there is no way graphics can get much better than this. In 5 years time I'll be looking back at Crysis, annoyed that my neural interface isn't compatible with it and that I have to use a keyboard and mouse but enjoying another instalment from crytek with once again revolutionary graphics and barely any storyline.

Bit tech reviewer is completely crackers

I registered to try and ask him to make sense of this comment:-

"Is Crysis revolutionary? Kind of. Is it a game of the year contender for me? Unfortunately not. Any other year, definitely yes, but this year there has some stiff competition and games like BioShock and Episode Two have to take precedence in my eyes."

Bioshock, ok, I can understand because even though the undersea aspect was completely wasted and it ended up just being a small room based FPS it did have the SystemShock reworkings, a very good background plot and excellent audio content. However how can it be claimed HL2Ep2 is up there when it was just one long interactive cut scene?

It was just one long series of the woman telling you to do things. I get that at home, I use my computer to escape from that.

    "Go press that lever Gordon"
"See if you can find your way around this gate Gordon"
"We need someone to get the ABC from XYZ Gordon"
"Can you get my tampons Gordon, there's a luv".

Any sort of actual decision making by the player? No, none whatsoever. Going through the motions springs to mind. I could do 1 thing only before going onto the next thing. If I want to watch something so planned out and linear I'd buy a movie and eat popcorn while watching someone else do it.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the graphics had been great, but it seemed to be the same old 2D source engine a la HL2 but with a bit of HDR thrown in. So flat and square, COD4 really knocks it into a cocked hat even without considering Crysis. In fact, for realistic lighting and "being there" COD4 might even have Crysis licked, though the detail is nowhere near as good.

OK I have said my piece, HL2 has to be the biggest let down of 2007. Same old stuff as Epsisode 1.

Portal of course is brilliant, from the first puzzle to the last song. Shame they did not put the money into that from Ep2 ! :D

just asking, anyone getting slowdowns when in icy environment?

you know near the end of the 3rd level, there is a cut scene, and then you are in an iced room. im getting ~ 8 FPS in that room, but as soon as i walked out of the roon, im getting the usual 20 - 25 even during combat.

just wondering does other people get that?

settings: 1440x900 (non native :( ), no FSAA, r_edge_aa = 2, most on VeryHigh except Shadows and Object detail and sound (integrated AC HD) which are on High. latest 169.09 beta drivers.

got the game this morning and haven't stopped grinning since. Part of the reason is the sheer wow factor of the game's graphics, another part is that i got a 8800gtx for £200 to play it on, and the final part is having a 24" monitor and 5.1. Its playing miles better than i thought it would, most stuff on high, but shaders and particles on ultra and physics &shadows on medium.

p.s did anyone else start crying when they saw the waterfalls?

p.p.s yeah, everytime i come across ice it slows down a bit

    @ AndyW35

To be honest I thought HL episode 2 was totally awesome. Yes there was pretty much only way to go, but the story was interesting and I thought the combat was excellent fun.

I don't get how a game can get a 9 out of 10 if the game play is so ordinary. Isn't the gameplay what makes a game fun or not ? I know it is for me, but I guess I am different.. (?)

I read it through!! great article and confirmed most of the stuff I had on the top of my head after playing the first 3-4 levels. john or jack or bill or tom, pointed out that the game was too easy most of the time, with the nano suit and all, but he also states that the player can controll the gun mounted on the vehicle while driving it right? isn't that only possible on the easier difficulties? like normal and easy? i play on hard and i must change position to shoot from a car.

by the way, i think you all are getting very lousy performance, spite having better hw, like the guy with teh 8800 ultra. Myself have a q6600, 2gb ram and 8800gts 320. i play with 1680x1050 on mostly medium and the important stuff on high, and i get around 50fps, late 30's in combat. the newest driver from nvidia is out and is crysis-optimized, so i think maybee the review was made a while ago with the beta driver or something. btw2 i average 12300 3dmark points. even still i am considering waiting to complete the game untill i can crank up on max. feels wrong having stuff like clouds off.

I tried it with 169.04 NVidia drivers and it crashed rather spectacularly. I've yet to try the 169.09 drivers.

All settings on high and texture detail on very high on my rig, no aa.

    Greetings!
Bit-Tech explained its gaming score method in the Bioshock review thread [1][2]. They gave Bioshock a 10 without noticing the mouse issues the PC version has. Am still in Fort Frolic waiting for a patch to fix the problem.
Only at Easy difficulty level. At Normal you must change positions with the humvee-like vehicle.

What mouse issues are you referring to? I've completed the game twice on the PC and I don't remember encountering any mouse issues.
