I got a 2x16 Crystal Fonts Parallel LCD, i wired it up, checkl and double checked the cables for shorts, nothing all good, i wiredd it properly to a parallel connector. Now i go to plug it into the parallel on my laptop, cause desktop is a pain in the arse, and nothing just the standard test signal. tried setting the parallel port to epp, ecp, ecp/epp, bi-directional, uni-directional. I have installed port95, tried lcdsmartie and the crystalfontz tester to no avail. now i don't have a pot installed for contrast but i do have one, i just have no clue where to connect it as i am a noob for electronics. my question is what did i do wrong and how can i fix it. And yes i tried the search but didn't find anything that would help me or that i could understand. LCD model: CFAH1602A-YYB-JP
well, i think the most obvious explination is that one of a few things are bad. either your LCD is bad, your wiring job is bad, your parallel cable is bad, or your parallel port is bad. slowly elimanate one by one, starting with parallel port. then, try changing parallel cables (probably neither of those are the problems, but its always worth a shot, jic). then, check again for shorts/incorrect pinout/sometiming, anything that could be wrong. the last resort would be to find a simple way to check your LCD. best of luck
thanks for the tips, i will work at this but i am not going to pull my hair out trying to figure it out, since i only spent 35 bucks on it. and it is not CRITICAL to my project.
