Anyone know why the hell I get huge chokes 30~40+ at times and 2 or 3 loss which if you trust me is annoying enough to close the game, occurs in both cs1.6 and cs:source. Could this be a hardware problem, as in a problem with my router or modem or whatever the hell you call it. I use a broadband connection so it's not a cable connection nor ADSL, slightly different. No matter how much I adjust the settings : rate, cl_cmdrate, cl_update cl_rate I still get high figures in choke and loss and at times the game completely freezes for example in HL2eathmatch, it's happened time and time again which causes me to die and frankly it's driving me CRAZY. If anyone knows why this is happening please tell me and if possibel and solutions, of course I could buy a new modem but I'm really skint at the moment and want to make sure I can accurately pinpoint the problem. Thanks in advance.
Depends where the servers are. If you are in China playing on a server in the UK, you will get lag becuase of the vast distance between you and the server. Try a local server - I mean within a few hundred miles. And if you have more than one router/switch/hub chained, that will also increase lag.
I always play local servers everyone knows me and sees me screaming WTF I JUST LAGGED ON THAT KILL OMG YOU FAGGIT (sound like a cs newb) and generally yeah I feel like throwing my pc out the window. I found out now that it's not the game it seems to be my modem anyone know what the heck is wrong with it I mean modems don't just go bust do they? Does heat affect anything hong kong is 32degrees and it's rather warm to the touch now...
Look and see what your internet connection is set to in settings/internet. It might be set to something you don't want it to be. Also try changing cl_smoothtime (i think it is), that helped me once before. Recently I keep getting lag spikes all the time and I am currently reinstalling to see if that sorts it.
I was playing Plan of Attack (HL2 Mod) and I was on an American server and I was playing at around 200 ping yet I had no choke or lag at all , this is really strange... What settings should I play with in smoothtime and what exactly does that setting do anyway?
