When playing on de_aztec, I experience a massive amount of lag (dropping to 20-30 fps) in some outdoor areas. Indoor areas are fine...

I was running at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF when I experienced the lag, so I dropped down to 1600x1200 2xAA 8xAF - the lag was still present. I then dropped down to 1280x1024 2xAA 8xAF to reduce the lag further, and it was still present, albeit not quite so bad.

    Has anyone experienced this?

I'm not using a sluggish system, or a sluggish graphics card, I'm running FX-55 with 1GB of ram and a Radeon X800 Pro all at stock. I'll give the X800 XT Platinum a whirl later on... but I don't think that the board is an issue.. I have a feeling it is driver related.

Seeing as 4.10 are the latest drivers, I can't really change the drivers during a review ;)

Not exactly got an up to date card, but aztec stiffs my 9800pro.

Never noticed it before, but now any map where there is water, it kills my fps, even on simple water detail. Im sure it wasnt this bad before using the betas, ill give em a try later.

What sort of rates are you running? Could be your connection to the server, i had that problem with Counter-Strike 1.6. If you're running a decent 512K/1MB line use these rates:

    rate 20000
    cl_updaterate 30
    cl_cmdrate 30

Either that or quite rightly, it could be driver related.

I've been using 101/101/25000 - I found them to be the best rates for bullet reg, and they only affect my ping, they don't really mess with my frame rate.

I run 1600x1200 with everything set for max IQ, and yes I do get some quite bad frame-rate drops (to about 30, but no less), it's most noticeable when you're outside and looking up in dust or dust2 into the "dust", and in places on aztec. It's perfect if I drop to 1280x960, though - no unexpected stutter anywhere.

    Those rates are EXTRMELY low.
    rate 20000
    cl_updaterate 80-101
    cl_cmdrate 80-101

are best suited to a 256k+ connection

Also, ping issues do not usually cause FPS loss.

9600pro and 4.10 cats, cant say ive paid too much attention to fps but it runs smoothly and i hant yet experienced any large performance drops .occasionaly i get a stutter when a grenade goes off (about 1 in 10) but I think its sound related rather than graphics as i dont even have to be able to see it. I run with no AA AF and default settings.
