Fresh from a format and installation of XP SP2, I install Steam and HL2/CSS. Now all that went as it normally does (slowly..) and I can log-in, play fine, for half an hour at most, as it'll crash back to the desktop. Yet other games like F.E.A.R and BF2 run perfectly for hours on end.

Possible faulty install? I'm creating a backup now, and I'll remove it, then try and re-install it that way. If still nothing a fresh install. :(

    Also, cheater? [IMG]

well you just installed css at the worst time (its just had an update).

    Bad things from the update:
Most plugins for servers are broken.
Some people have been having odd problems where you can only see someones gun and not the person.
Lots of people are complain of lag problems.

    Good things:
    New map de_nuke
    Losts of bug fixes/changes.

leave it for a few days and things should get sorted out

BTW, that pic is not of a cheater. You were in a WC3 server which changes all kinds of stuff.

A friend of mine messaged me last night with a simular problem. He'd never had a problem until that recent update. Windows update and the latest ATi drivers and then all was well.

I not very apt with the latest graphics drivers etc.. I'm running a x800Pro (club3d) I've downloaded the drivers from the ATi website, are those the current? Windows update is current and no updates needed.

Before you install the drivers, run the catalyst uninstaller (found on the ATi's driver down load page) to make sure the old driver is removed. If you don't remove the old driver, it could kink up the new one.

You'll have to reboot twice but then you're done and hopefully running solid once more.

Just tried using that ATi driver removal tool and installing the new drivers from the ATi website. Still same problem! Driving me crazy!

That's what's I'm running. Anyone know anything that I could do to get it working? Otherwise, I'm going to get rid of XP and see if the problem continues on Windows 2000 Professional. :(

    Seems like another Steam-Error.
In particular I have these ones when switching to the desktop and back to the game.
Maybe you have to wait for the next update...and try the new 5.12 Catalyst drivers.
