Hi, just sent an email to tyou but don't think it actually posted it for some reason. I have today bourght a set of cambridge soundworks digital speakers model csw250 (not new) but are having a job getting them to work. I have tested the individual sattelites and the internal subwoofer speaker and they all work fine, but am unable to get any sound out when connected through the subwoofer / amp. I have been searching on the net and have found that there is a remote control which plugs into the PS/2 style connector on the back of the subwoofer / amp. I assume this contains some kind of power / volume control and so without the remote it is either too quiet to hear or has no power. Does anyone know what the remote does and if it necessary to get the unit to work. If it is necessary do you have any ideas of what the remote actually does (as in input signal etc.) and / or where i could buy one cheaply. Thanks Tom
with your speakers you should have - Pair of Sound Blaster® SBS250 Speakers Power Supply Adapter Quick start guide Are you missing the power supply by any chance?
I know tom, and I was with him when he bought/tried the speakers. They weren't new, so there's no power supply, manual quick start guide etc - it's just the subwoofer cabinet and the satellites, no leads to connect them or anything. We have a power supply connected correctly (we managed to get that bit ), but because we don't have manuals etc we don't know exactly how to connect it up. We also found that the speaker set should come with a (wired)remote control which allows you to control the volume, and also turn the power on and off. That's what made us think that the power might not be on etc... So if anyone knows anything about how we can bypass the remote power switch, if we need to it'd be helpful. (If there's anyone with diagrams etc to tell us how to connect up the speakers that'd be good too).
I've got a set of creative inspires with wired remote. I just tested it out, if you haven't got the remote plugged in it don't work. As to its wiring thats anyones guess. If I have time I'll open it up and see what I can see
Thanks a lot for the info Fruitloaf, at least it means they weren't a complete waste of money (hopefully ). If you can look inside that'd be great, but I don't want anyone to tear their remote apart and stop their own speakers working. Oh yeah, do you know if the manual came with any circuit diagrams etc? It might be helpful if I can get hold of some... Oh, and cderalow, thanks. I feel at home already. Well as close to home as you can feel on a webpage...
I'll open it up tomorow as I'm away from home at the mo. I'm pretty sure there were no circuit diagrams in the manual, I'll check again for some hints though
Okay, I've been doing some experimenting (read: playing ) and I've managed to work out how to get the unit to power on, and turn the satellite volume up and down. I can't get it to play sound through the subwoofer though. That's why I want to know what kind of controls there are on the remote - can you control the subwoofer volume seperately, can you change left right channel volumes independantly etc etc... Also - if anyone's got any more info on how to connect up a remote it'd still be very useful.
I promise I'll open it up tonight, the controls its got on it are volume (which also turns it on) and front/back balance However your model might be different so I suggest you try to find some pics of it
