Hello, I made some SketchUp models of a small 1 foot by 1 foot cube case I would like to make at some point. It would fit perfect in the shelf in my desk. Anyway, I was wondering if you could give me any suggestions and where I should place the fans and such. This is the first case I have built from scrach but I have built PCs in factory cases.

The motherboard will be smaller than in the sketch, I just used that as a place holder.

This is the first time I have ever used sketchup so please excuse the crappyness.

I would put two fans on the sides, a little above the motherboard, sucking air in, with the PSU and a fan blowing out on the top... Hot air rises, and you have plenty of space to use that to your advantage.

Thanks, i was thinking of something similar...

I am also planning to build this case out of wood, as I have woodworking tools. What would be the best wood to use? Would there be any problems using wood? What would be the best way to mount the parts?

    Thanks

only problem with wood is that its an insulator - so you will need plenty of airflow to extract the heat - 120mm fans? Also it doesnt sheild rf/emi etc but then again neiter does a big plexi window.

There are 3 things important in a front bezel design......

    Symmetry, symmetry and symmetry...

The layout you show looks too unbalanced IMO.
Try getting the optical drives centralised with the LCD above or below. Looks much more professional.
Drop the PSU a couple of inches and you could have the drives side by side at the top and the LCD below them.

it's half finished it's supsed to have a fan att the top of the case so you get the hard drive cooled down
