    Hello,
I didn't know whether to put this in Mac or PC, but I figured since it had more to do with Mac's system, then I should post it here.
I attempted to find the answer to this question on google, and I tired to search these forums, but to no avail. Maybe I was just using the wrong terms.
The other message boards I've posted on have either locked the question or chastised me. So I'm going to assume this is a stupid question...

Now that I covered that, here's the situation:

I recently recieved a new hard drive from a friend. After formatting it I was just going to throw it in a drawer in case something went wrong with my current drive. But I got to wondering: Can I put OSX on the hard drive and run it on my PC? Since you can with Linux, I wondered if you could with any oppoerating system. If you think I'm just wasting your time, help us all out and don't reply. It's really just a yes or no question that I can't find the answer to.

Thank you very much for your time. :D

depending on the configuration of the computer, and the version of OS X, yes and no.

If you're running a desktop system that uses the Intel Yonah dual cored chips, then it might be possible to do a legitimate install of OS 10.4 Tiger to the drive.

Any other computer hardware and strictly speaking in the legitimatacy, no you can't.

The answer is no. OSX looks for a code in an onboard chip with is unique to all Macs so if you dont have a mac it wont work

thats not true, there are examples of people using non-mac hardware to run OS X, however it is a violation of Apple's software agreement, and as such is illegal

I don't personally condone doing it, but it can be done.

Legally no, but I've done it, and it works ok-ish as long as you have the right hardware. But neither I or anyone here will tell you how to do it.

Yes it is indeed possible, a mac mini uses hardware that is available for pc's. Though, in order for osx to run you have to find a motherboard with exactly the same specs and components that the mac minis motherboard has. There are some motherboards out there but I have not come across one. Note that it is possible but not entirely the best thing to regularly use because of legality issues and it is been done to be more of a concept proof than anything else.

I recommend dropping something like a Linux variant of Ubuntu on that hard drive, I have only good things to say about that version of Linux. Even so, you may not be interested in Linux.

I feel like im making this point redundant so I'll stop.

I think this thread should be closed really, I know the OP wasn't really talking about the new hacked version of OS X, but most people seem to think he was.

Yes. You could run OS X on a PC. But it needs a specific hardware setup and a alot of knowledge. It is also illegal.

So the real answer is NO.
