Ok, im doing my electornics AS CW At the moment and am working out the power over each resistor (to check if its safe :)). So, I was working out the current through each resistor, and it turns out its in the magnitude of micro ampere. I was just wondering if this was normal for a 15V Regulated supply to produce such currents! it seems very small, is micro amper common ?

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it more what the resistor will allow to pass through it rather than what the power supply will deliver? So if a resistor will only allow lets say 100mA through it, that's all will be drawn from the supply.

Eg. if you have a 10k resistor and a 12v power supply, then using I=V/R the resistor will allow 1.2mA through it (and so 1.2mA will be drawn from the supply)

What're you making for your coursework, anyway? :D Interested cos i'm doing my coursework right now too ;)

its technically a sound to light converter, altohugh my name of preference is "wavelength superaccelerator" :)

i didnt know it decided, and tbh i have just worked out that its the sig gen providing most of the amage :) and i was just thinking and it works out i need not have made this thread because iw asnt looking at my figures correctly :p

I'll leave it open for now for cpemma or someone to tell me if I was right about the current thing...

uhhh, very well done :p but if you have to learn about everything at the same time (that being the point of the course ;)) it can take longer. plus i had to use normal electronics, maybe it could have been a bit swifter had i been able to use a microchip thing :) you can do it with p[retty much nothing compared to what i used :)

Imagine a device as 'sucking' curent.

So you've got this guy (your device) sucking current (delicious and fruity Vimto), out of a glass, how much he is getting is dependent on wether he is drinking directly from the glass or through a straw (resistor).

So the cureent depends on how much the device can suck (or wants) and, if a straw (resistor) is involved, how thick is is (how much it will let by).

but a straw would not suck more than it can take, and resistors blow up if too much current goes through them! also the voltage (pressure) would be far greater through a straw then trying to suck out of the hefty opening off a glass! :)

You mean your straws don't explode:worried:

Look, its VImto, its cheek suckingly fruity, its delicious, it doesn't nedd accuracy.

if u suck super ammounts of vimto you would heat up the straw and eventually melt it or at least collapse it . . . surely

either way = catastrpohic faliure ie lack of vimto

    Yup, simple thermo-vimto-dynamics
