He posted pics on another forum and /. posted it on their front page.

Probably why the pics won't load.

Slashdot editors are suckers for acrylic case stories. The Invisible Case was on there too, same with project frozen (yeah yeah...aluminum). Its not my fault that I know this, really.... /. is my homepage

    Hello!

There has been some focus on the HDD mod. This is how I performed my version:

    1. I purchased the smallest piece of glass I could find at the local hardware store (I believe it was 12"x12"). I had the glass cut into 4 individual pieces measuring 4"x5.75". The total cost was $1.57.
    2. I created a frame using a 1/8" square solid acrylic rod that I glued to one of the pieces of cut glass.
    3. Using a precision file I shaved off enough of the acrylic material used for the frame so that I could fit the LED leads that I would use for lighting. I proceeded to glue the LED leads to the acrylic frame.
    4. I prepped a work area and removed the cover off the hard drive I would be using. I immediately placed the cover I made over the exposed drive.
A couple of notes here. Do not remove the original drive cover until you are ready to swap it out with your new cover. The process of swapping covers should take a couple of seconds only. The work area should be clean as possible. A high humidity area would work as long as the process is completed with the utmost expediency.
    5. Next the new cover was clamped to the drive and the resultant seam between the cover and the drive was sealed with a clear silicone epoxy.

As I have stated in the past, use an old drive that you can afford to lose. I used a spare drive I had lying around. I would NEVER do this with my primary drives! Go out and buy an old/used or refurbished drive for $10.00 if you have to.

I will be using this drive for video/music, taxes ;) and other unimportant files.

The whole mod was completed in 40 minutes.

    Cheers!

    hiya-

ive got one question for everyone.. this is kinda off the topic of the case, but im planning to build my own watercooled clear case (im gonna build the case outta plastic) i want to know where i can get 1\4" green translucent plastic\acrylic\lexan or somthing that would substitute for green translucent plastic. ive looked everywhere for somthing in more than 1\8"... so if ANYONE can get me a link to somthing like this (we have the stuff at school, but its summer and none is there ATM... figures - so i can get my hands on it) i used it for my custom lazer cut grills (that i made =D) i wanna cut the case in the lazer plotter at school.... built in grills!! itl be sweet, .. anyway- any help would be MOST EXELENT!

    thanks.

    and btw hmale..
freggin cool case- thats what i want mine to be like - but i got an 8" fan with a de-humidifyer rad! sweet =D.

    http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pr..._id=Tinted+and+Colored+1/4+Acrylic+Cut+Sheets

    Green 2108 1/4" 24" x 24" Acrylic Sheet $20.54
    Green 2108 1/4" 24" x 48" Acrylic Sheet $41.07
    Green 2108 1/4" 48" x 48" Acrylic Sheet $83.63

"Sheets are UV stabilized. Black is opaque and will not transmit light. Gray and bronze are dark tinted and provide a see through visibility. White and other colors are translucent and provide low level of light transmission. Sheets 38" x 48" and larger must ship Motor Freight ."

These are translucent like you asked for, you wont be able to see the items inside your case. If you are wanting to see in, you'll need tinted colors.

the rad\fan will be in operation soon, ive just cut off the ends of those copper tubes and drilled em out so they dont supress the flow of fluid... me and my 'skill saw' make a great couple ;D. but once i get that plastic, the whole project is gonna start! i wanted to post this on the compatition they just started, but :cries: i cannot- seeing that i dont have any plastic yet :miffed: - oh well. i will have to wait!. thanks for the support guys!

and i wanted a transparent'ish' color like this grill i made at school- its the quake logo up-side-down... take a look

    clear grill thing

that is the type of plastic i am looking for. it is for lazer plotting - some sort of polycarbonate... on like sep.6 i can get an order in (for free IMA) but until then i will still scout for some of the stuff.. thanks again
