Hey All! Been lurking for a while and finally decided to post an idea looking for some input as some of you have some really insane ideas on how to better a thing. So it's like this, I have had an Intel Atom board laying around now for over a year, which was then later joined by two 1.5TB drives of which I'm only using one. The original idea was to use them to make a small storage server, but... I never got that far. This is an idea I came up with to house all the lovely bits using either alu or mild steel 10mm square bar and perspex with some mesh if i get hold of some i like. Dimensions: L = 270mm B = 250mm (300mm with bottom curves) H = 150mm (175mm with top curves) View1- Going to try a custom fan grill for the intake. View2- With an engraving of something on the front - for now imagine a rabbit View3- Will use grommets and screws to attach the HDDs to the top and bottom. If made from alu I will probably use screws to attach everything together, if steel I'll then try to weld most of the frame. What I would like to know is whether something like the PicoPSU-80 (http://www.mini-box.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=846702) would be enough to power the atom board, 2x HDDs, and a 120mm fan. Or should I just rather go for one of the more powerful one such as the PicoPSU-120? That's all for now. jra
Nope - not grunty enough! the extreme power supply calc lists your setup as 103w, that pico does only 80w! You'll need http://www.mini-box.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=846700 (120w) or http://www.mini-box.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=846699 (150w)
So what hardware is going inside besides the board and the two HDDs? If there's nothing else you wanna put in there, then there's plenty of cheap and small cases available, with integrated PSUs. Antec ISK 300-150 for example, which ships for 60$.
