ok.. was going to make a new front for my case... (see sign. for details ;) )

i was wondering if it's possible to cut 3mm plexi by cutting with a knife and breaking it of... (scoring ??)

and will the cut be wery exact?

the piece i will cut is about 20x15cm... cinda' hard to get straight ith a jigsaw...

i could mage a jig for the jigsaw (...), but i have heard that the cust is much nicer when curring with a knife... is this correct?

    anyone got experiencec/opinions?

Don't use a regular knife to do that. There's a special knife that I believe is called a "scoring knife" that will work wonders for you. Score the plexi a few times with a straight edge as your guide and you can snap the pieces. As far accuracy goes, that all depends on your hand. If you keep it steady, it'll be accurate.

you can use a utility knife with a nice sharp blade, make a couple of passes along a straight edge guide with the knife before attempting the break.

True, but in my opinion, a scoring knife is easier if you've never done it before as the utility knife tends to drift. Well, that is, at least it does with me. ;)

My opinion is to avoid the jigsaw and try with a cutter.
I've tried this with a music tape casing and it worked and this will be my next try with plexiglass because with the jig i can't go straight.
The secret is to do a lot of passes trying to match the same line.
It could also work with plexi , i think it's only a question of patience.

well.. i use a metal ruler and cut with a really sharp knife.. (those you can break of the tip of the blade ond you'll have a fresh, sharp blade... )

i was thinking about cutting along something with the lig saw... i have done that before... bdifficult to do without scratching anthing... and IF the jig wants to drift of a bit the plexi will end up in a lump.. :duh:

so.. i think ill try it tomorrow...

    thanks guys! :thumb:

smilodon honestly I Have used a utility knife and and scoring knife. In my opinion it is better to to get a scoring knife as its edge helps to seperate the plexi after each run, and the good this is the cheap ones like the one I used are only $1.50 rather cheap and you will get better resultes on your project
