So i need to cut some foam insulation. I saw how they cut it in the factory to the sizes you get for building a home...

They use a wire that has current running through it, and it heats up enough to cut right through...

Anyone have any idea how I could make something similar? It only needs to be about a foot and a half long.

i've seen home made ones made out of a wood or pvc. the pvc ones looked easier to make. they basically made a Y with the tubing then at the ends of the y they added an inch or two of al with a connector on the end for the wire to be strung between. hope this helps.

think in terms of a 50w soldiering iron.....execpt with a wire instead of an iron...you just have to get like 6 gauge stainless steel wire...that way it doesn't melt from the heat :)

oops...wrong guage...i ment 11 guage...that should be thick enough for low watt...6 guage is a little thick...like 2cm ...and it does matter what material you use...i guess violin string would do great..didnt think of em :D
