First counter point: There's not much in my cupboards that's in a packet that isn't a spice or flour or something. Second counter point: I don't do either of those. Interestingly, the numbers of known alcohol dependants and known epilepsy sufferers is about the same - 580k and 600k in the UK. I looked into it when I considered making an alcohol comparison earlier. I'm also not saying that people with photosensitivity issues shouldn't consume any media. That seems a little bit of a stretch.. I'm saying in this instance it makes very little sense to me because I know (And I would presume that anyone who has been even loosely following the game for the last seven years would also know) the cyberpunk genre to be fairly intense with the lighting, it's not what I would consider a "normal" game with regards to photosensitivity risks. The vast majority of cyberpunk media I've ever seen that isn't a book is strongly flavoured with things that I'd expect to give a photosensitive person pause for thought on consuming (Or, trying to) that media. And, as I keep saying, in this instance CDPR have made a mistake not including the startup warning, and even more so, including things that apparently mimic an epilepsy test. And compounded that error by not including the option to turn it off/tone it down/whatever. I'm just perplexed by what appears to me to be a willingness to immerse ones self in a piece of content that is set in a universe that is quite harsh with its lighting environments - above and beyond what most other game universes tend to encompass. If I were a sufferer of a photosensitivity disorder, I'd definitely have reservations about playing this game - Even without any warnings. Just in case, again, I'm not saying the person who discovered this rather unfortunate situation is to blame here. CDPR definitely are. It is just a behaviour of the person who discovered the issue that I do not understand. I don't even consider myself that risk averse (Although, you won't catch me bungee jumping any time soon), I've drunk alcohol, I've experimented with a couple of drugs, I drive fast, it wouldn't take long to list a bunch of things I do or have done that would be considered far more risky than having a photosensitivity disorder. I dunno about you, but I'm a life-long condom man. Also not someone who would be described as having a 'risky' sexual history..
So no cyberpunk games. But... also no first-person shooters, vis-a-vis the aforementioned muzzle flash. And no high-speed racers. Or high-speed platformers. Or puzzlers with eye-catching animations... Just like a lot of people who have an allergy to something need to roll the dice in order to live anything close to a normal life, a gamer who has epilepsy either plays nothing but text adventures (not that there's owt wrong with that, got a lot of love for the genre myself) or accepts there's a risk involved. Just like the risk with drinking, or smoking, or riding a motorbike, or, hell, crossing the street. Which is not to say, as you've already agreed, this absolves companies of blame should they insert something which they could have reasonably foreseen as greatly increasing the risk for no apparent reason. And forgetting to adequately warn consumers of said risk.
Only 98% effective, if worn correctly Completely agree BTW on the the stupidity of including something like that in a game.
Cyberflunk. So glad I didn't buy this at full price now. The reviews don't sound very assuring at all. Apparently it's a broken mess. Edit. It sounds so bad I have bought it. Yeah I know right, masochism ... I guess I've not had much to complain about lately so maybe that's why.
Yes a common theme I'm seeing is people reading reviews, rolling around in the glorious mud of non-10/10 reviews, then immeidately pre-ordering it. Meanwhile I've not seen a minute or read a sentence of hype, previews or features. I know what I want and it's an open world cyberpunk game by reputable developers.
I just got a 3GB one! Litterally took 10 minutes for the game to uncompresss! I'm going to play it tomorrow though!
I went with GOG. Got the 250MB download after their servers rebooted. Raytracing and HDR enabled the visuals have blown my socks off. Spent 20 minutes just looking at lighting and reflections in the bar. Not been this impressed since seeing the source engine for the first time. Edit - Gameplay wise, very immersive and compelling story so far. The soundtrack is banging. Bug watch - 3 items glitched so far, one remained floating in the air long after the waiter left. Minor NPCs mouth not moving when they speak. Nothing game breaking, immersion breaking though. I cannot stress how stunning the visuals are. Best looking game I've played, ever. Bed time now! Enjoy everyone.
I got it on GOG, and got a 9.9gb patch to start with. Interestingly, it played fine at 1440p on my machine, I was expecting it to play like a crunchy nightmare based on all the palava about performance. Definitely got my coolant toasty, if the LED ring is still trustworthy. I only got to the first training bit, though, so perhaps that'll change.
