I can't get over how the wood and the alu complements each other. Really good work man. Oh, and btw, any plans for finishing the wood?

    Sweeeeeet. :D
For the uneven part, you need a long, auto body detailing sander. Hand sanding will only make the wobbles more pronounced.

    Thanks b4oz. :thumb:

    :):)

    Thanks stone. :)

    Errrr...................thanks...............................I think. :hehe:

    Thanks Spy. :)

Thanks man. The wood will probably be finished in matt or satin polyurethane.
:hehe: Pillows= pansies, girlies, horses hoofs, lollies, etc. :hehe:

Haha, thanks but I've been crook with the flu for the past five days, and this forum is very
busy so threads disappear quick. :thumb:

    Thanks BW. :thumb:

Man nothin' gets past you. :thumb:

Yeah I've got to get one of those. :thumb:

As was just mentioned I was unable to do anything over the past five days due to a
particularly potent dose of the flu. Also, as was pointed out on another forum, as the
two sides are mirrored, it's best to stop working on one side, glue up the wood for the
other side and take it to about the same level as the first, then work on them together
so as to get them as similar as possible.
Some of you may be interested to know: The first "lump" started out at 8.5kg's and at
the moment it weighs 4.2kg's. so a significant reduction but still too heavy. If this part
was finished then an estimated weight for the shell would be around 10 to 12kg's and
this is just too heavy, so more weight reduction is necessary.

    Back soon. :thumb:

I am really loving this case. Oldnewby already knows that. You going to show them your little experiment Newbs? I still reckon using brass might have yielded a better result with Jarrah....

For all of you that are not Aussies, I really do not think you realise how big a task attacking a project with Jarrah is. It is very dense and as such is like lead. It is also very, very hard - to the point of being brittle.

It blunts tools like you would not believe. I bet he spent half his time carving with the chisels, and the other half grinding and sharpening said chisels. As for using the router on it... madness. That bit will not be usable again unless you know how to sharpen the bits.

On the other hand, the wood has a grain and colour that is absolutely unbelievable, and you can see the result of the interior weight removal which is only chisel-finish. Someone asked me on another forum if that was sanded and lacquered. When I told them it was raw wood they didn't believe me.

I just am so excited by this case, it is one in a million or more. Desperately want to see it finished.

Excellent work with a difficult medium.

You realize that in 20 years lawyers will be on the late night shows telling people who have been exposed to Jarrah dust to call 1-800 -SUE-WOOD. [IMG]
