I'm about to upgrade my 10/100 network to Gigabit speeds and have opted for D-Link switches, as I've found them to be very reliable in the past. I need a 5-port switch for the loft and an 8-port switch for the bedroom - both of which D-Link offer. However, there's a slight problem with my choices: The D-Link website lists the 5-port DGS-1005D and also the 5-port DGS-2205. It lists the 8-port DGS-2208, but states that the DGS-1008D is discontinued. The logical choice would be to purchase the newer 5/8-port switches (DGS-2205 and DGS-2208 respectively), but I cannot find any UK stockist for either - help! If all else fails, I'll get the 'older' DGS-1005D (£26.11 from ebuyer) and DGS-1008D (£53.35 from ebuyer), but why don't us Brits get the newer kit??? Thanks to bit-tech's shopping section for finding the low prices!
I didn't think of looking there - but it highlights my point, why don't us Brits get all the latest hardware too? Thanks for pointing that out though - do I look at importing the latest models from the US and pay for import taxes, or stick with the models available in the UK?
