Okay, we've been looking and looking and looking for a car to buy together and have a "father / son" project. A lot of you know that I'm 100% muscle car and so is my dad so we've been looking for a 1955 - 1974 GM or Mopar to play with. You know, something like a '68 Charger r/t or a '66 Camaro. Problem is that they are in high demand lately and are demanding high price tags. Well, we settled on a car. Introducing Dad's and Dad's Dads new toy, a 1991 Nissan 300ZX:

Now, it's not the twin-turbo model, we didn't want turbo as neither one of us like the turbo lag. It's the 240hp 3.0l V6 which we plan on getting up around 400hp by the time summer rolls around again. No major body mods planned other than maybe a stock style rear wing and an aftermarket air dam. We're going to replace the stock brakes with oversize Behr brakes though. Ideally we would be happy to get this to run low 12's...

Turbo lag can be compensed with blow-off valve...

But this could be such a nice "drift machine" :thumb:

not sure about not getting the turbo version, as it has two one kicks in before the other. so lag is reduced.

    but yeah. great car :thumb:

may i suggest a spray job? black, then get some graphite alloys
    :naughty:

'Cause we're not made of money ;) j/k

We're not going to go nuts with this car, it's only going to be a toy. TBH, we've been talking about selling it before winter hits to make way for a "real" muscle car. However, if we don't, I've bookmarked tm36usa's uncle's site for reference ;)

Hey dad. I am a primarily gm kinda guy but you can have a nice mustang from the 60's for not too mutch. And a camaro from the 70's with a 350 and runing well with very little to no rust can go as low as 1500bux.

The 300zx is not my kind of car but it has my respect to some extend.

RepLiKa is right I'm afraid. A blow-off valve is simply to release excess pressure after you lift your foot off the gas, to prevent the turbo from stalling through the back pressure (which would also damage it in the long term).

To prevent lag you need a variable vane turbo, which alters the angle of the turbo impellor blades depending on the revs of the engine. Audi is famous for using this trick in their legendary TDI engines. I have one in my Skoda Fabia and I can guarantee you there is practically no lag at all.

ahh, rice mobile. if you wanted a classic you could have went with like a 69 nova, you can pick those up without a motor for under 2grand. or a chevelle or impala.

What you got is a decent enough car, but i dont think its really a project car.

Not really looking for a true project car. Like I said, neither of us has a garage to work on one in so we have to get one that's in good condition. A true muscle car in good condition would cost waaaay too much at this time.
