You all know I hate clicking and when I hear clicking I must destroy it...well I cant exactly destroy a fan that I need. Now why is my fan clicking or better yet how can I stop it. I dont realy want to add a pwm or potentiomiter but leave it connected to my mobo. Is there software where I can speed it up or slow it down to stop the damn clicking. Its not loud...I'll get a small recording of it if you want...I'll nead hosting :D

EDIT: Dont want to have to order a new fan either.

Is there a piece of wire or something hitting the blades? That is usually why/when my fans click

That, or if they're not fully screwed on, they'll shake a bit.

Nothing hitting it, I'll see if it is tite against the case...but I mean its a constate clicking and it more like if there was a wire hitting it soooo. Well let me titen the screwes untill then still is there no program for windows that will let me control my fans through my mobo. And what about the mesh and possible fan.

Don't overtighten and make sure they are tightened evenly. Try making it even too loose, sometimes it can help. Overtightening can result to distortion of the plastic frame, causing the blades to knick the frame.

Is there enything wrong with stopping my fans with my finger to find out which one it is. Casue I just did it and now there is still the clicking but I can hear a small vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....But what is odd is when I stopped them the clicking continued what elts could it be. I know it isnt the hard drive or cd drive becasue the sound is no where near them but I just cant pinpoint it.

Dang if there was a dead rat behind my mobo then he would have to have been there since I opened the box.

if it isnt any of the fans, its most likely the power supply
many of them make a clicking noise, its not the fans, its the electronics
the only way to sort this is to get a new power supply unfortunately

Dont get a cheap one, that why your computer now is clicking prolly, cause its a cheap PSU, get a good one that will last for a while

Did you try eliminating other causes? Buying a new PSU only to find out it was something else would be a pity..

The 'vrrrr' when you stop your fans might be the motor trying very hard to make it turn. Try not to stop them that way for too long, motor's don't like that..

    I would try:
    Disconnecting fans one by one.
Disconnecting all fans (some PSU's can click because of interference with fans I believe).
Check if anything in your case is resonating.

Good PSUs: I like Tagan :). However, the do have a bit of history with 'clicking', but I think they have solved that problem. The one I have does not click in any case, so you could just change yours if you happen to get a 'bad' one.. Then again you may not want to take the risk. Have a look & search in the Hardware forum, lots of threads about PSUs.

lol@the dead gecko. Didn't it stink?

No, your mobo will just go "CPU FAN ERROR!!!" while POSTing and then continue to boot into windows.

So long as you are not running a dell or hp or compaq or anything lame like that, your mobo really won't care. It ~may~ make a noise or two (some chirping from the pezzo) but thats about it. Check in your bios though, just make sure there's no "SHUT DOWN IF ID-TEN-TEE ERROR CAUSES FAN TO STOP" option enabled - just in case ;).

Ok but I dont feel like shutting down unplugging and then turning on. What will happen if I just unplug it right now(I have windows xp if that matters)

unpluging your cpu fan while the computer is running...? Quite possibly the worst idea in history (unless you're trying to kill it.)

What? Hotplugging fans is totally safe. It's nothing but power and an RPM sensor, which is no big deal to hotplug.

If you just replace it with another you have on hand you can check what's wrong with it and maybe clean it :hehe:
