Defacing a site is never funny, not even when it's the RIAA

It's as bad as those who "tag" with permanent markers and spray paints on homes and businesses, only it usually affects more people and often has more at stake.

These people are lucky that the only thing that happened was they were defaced. Of all the possible attacks defacing is the least offensive and costly, sure you lose a couple hours worth of traffic and have to roll back to a backup but at least you still have all your data intact and you know you've got a hole in your system. If they'd be serious about causing harm they'd hack the site and start putting trojans/rootkits/worms etc in the links and then start collecting personal data of visitors. While I don't condone defacing a site it's far better than what could happen.

Yep, just a bunch of script-kiddies, nothing more. Its a pain in the ass when a forum you like gets hacked, which has happened to me before sadly, it was a small one, only me and like 8 other regulars, but it was a nice community.

And really, they do no damage, unless your machine was set up by a moron ( as was the case with the recent 711 chan debacles. Let's make the mysql server a ****ing ROOT process. Great idea). It just takes some time to back it up, and patch your bulletin board sofware so VbHaxxxor 2.26 by ~angelEyez~ and ~d3ymon~ stops working.

The first 711 attack was just a keylog, wasn't it?
