That's a really cool effect on the metal panels! So that's really just a brushed finish using a grinding wheel? Was the effect there before painting, or did you need the paint to actually bring it out?

The paint is Kandy paint (House of Kolor) so it's semi translucent to just change the color. The effect works with just a clear coat, but the color does make it pop quite a bit more, with a more vibrant contrast.

I'm not sure if I think of brushed finish the same or not, but I guess so? (I think of brushing as long brushing marks from end to end, like the finish on the Lian-Li cases).

Thanks! That's why I didn't do the update earlier, just not the same with out the video

    Thanks Ace!

Thanks! Easy technique, as long as one has access to the tools needed :dremel:

Gotcha, thanks for the info. And yes, I think that's still considered a brushed finish . . . just brushing in spirals instead of straight lines :)

    thanks!

I guess it makes sense, I don't know what I'd classify it as otherwise :)

    Thanks :)

Wow. I absolutely love burnished stuff. In 2008 I sailed home from the USA on the Queen Mary II. On the last day (I could see Southampton) I decided to venture out onto the front deck where I found where they keep their spare propeller blades. They're burnished... Seriously that morning it was absolutely freezing but I just stood there in awe staring away at the workmanship.

Seriously I absolutely love what you've done with those panels. A few years back I had a Mongoose SGX Supergoose (my race bike, a BMX) and it was burnished with a candy copper paint.. Gorgeous mate, and truly sublime craftsmanship going on here.

Nice wood working skills, and that paint just is brilliant, never seen it before.. Really nice work dude..

I think I might try that paint effect out some time. I really do like it.

That is awesome! I wonder if they did it by hand or by machine lol Stuff like that is just too cool. Sometimes I miss when I used to do BMX racing... was a lot of fun. Thanks for the comment and kind words :)

Thanks Jeff. It's quite easy (first time I've ever done it) and the results are awesome compared to just standard painting.

One vote comin' right up! I just think people will remember that sick, fiery brushed metal finish the most, in this build, or this month's.

    Good luck on MOTM, mate!

Thanks man! I've got a bunch of parts on order, and took a trip to Bill's shop at MNPCTech this past weekend, so I hope to have a small update soon :thumb:

So another quick little update, I took a little field trip with this one over to Bill’s shop at MNPCTech. Bill shot a little video of it and what I was doing, and as always I took absolutely no pictures :). So I don’t have any action shots, but I’ve got these aftermath shots…

I used some scrap pieces of acrylic and cut out a few pieces for the side panels.

These pieces will be cleaned up, scuffed up, and then epoxied to the metal side panels. The gap in the middle lines up with the vents on the side of the case, to still allow some airflow.

Next are some MNPCTech white delrin case feet

These are the perfect size for my taste on this build; slightly larger than the mini case feet, but smaller than the aluminum ring case feet. I won’t be using the mounting hardware, as I want to use the existing M3 holes.

Got the MNPCTech case feet installed. I had to glue an M3 nut into the rubber portion of this one, because my counter sunk M3 screws weren’t quite long enough to use a washer and nut like the other feet. I had to clear the PSU on the inside.

I will likely end up painting these, so they won’t stay white…

I also bought a 140mm radiator for the back.

Originally, I was going to try to remake the back shroud to accommodate the radiator and a fan instead of mounting externally. After figuring that the tube routing would be a pain, and a massive shroud would look awkward, I decided to do what I usually don’t like; mount the radiator externally. This may also get painted to match the feet, we’ll see.

That’s it for this one, just a quick little progress update to show where I’m at. I need to finish up a woodworking project by next weekend, and then I’ll be hitting this harder once again. I need to get a motherboard and CPU, so I can start doing some plumbing work!

Thanks for checking it out :)

Maybe so wood trim on the rad to frame those dancing panels. :)

    Looking very good so far.
