TBH i think it's fairly rubbish. I guess the appeal of it is the Spore-like customisation, but then according to my friend it's been heavily toned down. I think my personal problem with it is the lack of choice during progression. In Diablo or Torchlight etc. you could choose which skills you wanted and what you wanted to level up. This game gives you only 7 skills in total to use. 4 of them are determined by your Champion and 3 by your Squad Members. Ultimately every session involves walking through a randomly generated dungeon trying to find new loot. Whilst this is similar to Diablo or Torchlight, at least there i felt i was grinding to level up... in Darkspore i didn't really find levelling up meant anything.
had a quick go and initially i like it, its deeper than it first appears but most of the customisation comes from different heroes rather than grind on one particular character. obviously its quite a new idea and wont suit everyone, but i could see it holding my interest for a while if playing with friends
Yeah, my impression of it from the beta was it's a hack'n'slash Lite. If it was <= £10 i might get it, but for 30 you will get bored easily. (It's also a very, very easy game)
