I bought the HL2 platinum package thing with the T shirt and all in a local store, so does this mean I'll get DoD, or is it only an upgrade for the online orders that took place via steam?

I doubt it will - they pre-load all the chunky textures, sounds etc and then just send out the EXE plus other bits of code when you unlock.

Unlike when I got the Preview code - I already have DoD:S preloaded, but then had to spend *another* two hours downloading the separate Press version :(

I'm not complaining though - most of you hate me now anyway :)

Nice of them to drop the Brits from flash, once again giving the impression that America won WWII alone.....again.

11mths for 4 maps and no British teams......it sucks.

There ARE British models, according to the official site, allbeit 4 vs 8 for US. And there will be more maps to come, as well as community maps.

Considering the volume there will be eventually, I'm not bothered that it costs $20 today. If you think about it, how many maps do most people play anyway? It's certainly almost never all 20 or whatever; it's usually a core half dozen at the most.

Having played all four myself online, each has a different flavour, and there's more than enough variety to keep people playing until the next batch arrives.

Except the ONLY map out of those 4 i like to play is Donner....all the others are nothing but grenade spamming bottlenecks......

Dont get me wrong, i bought the Silver Steam package in Oct 04 because of the prospect of DODS, and its sitting on my HD ready and waiting for the off....but to launch 11 mths later with just 4 maps is crazy, its not as if they were starting from new in terms of game concept, map design etc..etc.
If you ask me its going to take another 12mths before the game matches its current incarnation.

No, havn't ordered it. Trying to resist. Tempted though.

Looks very much like CS:S with 1940's guns though.

The key difference for me is that when I die, I respawn... but yeah, compared to an RTS, it's the same as CSS :p

I was more meaning the textures, the architecture, the structures, all look like very similar to certain levels of CSS, like Italy for instance.

It will be intresting to see how much of the CSS community moves over to DoD

    $20 is a bargain!
consider i got hl2 for cs:s alone, i have played it so much now. probably the best value game ever.

lets see how dod:s takes me!
    4.5 hours to go!!!

$20 is not a bargain. This is a mod, what was once a free mod. $20 is $20 too much for a mod the modding community would have happily produced and no doubt supported better then valve for free.
