It's always interesting to see how a game/level developers mind works when they're creating a masterpiece. Great read.

I hate this map and I hate dust2 they are not balenced imo even though people say they are I'd say de_chateau is more balenced than these two overated over played maps they have to be the most two boring looking maps too but I guess it comes with the name :sigh:

lol are you joking? or have you just never played to a league standard?

de_dust i can't see how its the " statistically, the most-played multiplayer map in the world, " it must have been huge before i got into cs because i with many other people never reallyyy played this map... even on his blog he said dust2 has 30,000 players playing at anyone time compared with dust where it had 10,000 players playing at anyone time... do the maths... dust2 is more popular it seems...
anyway back to uldis comment chateau is fun if ur a n00b but iv never played in the map in a serious map.. or for example in the cpl iv never personally heard of it being played there.

Dust is not even ... (1.6 btw) very easy for cts if you know how to play..
dust2 is even though i believe t's is better in source .. in 1.6 it nearly makes no difference - depends on your tactics.

Play Dust in an organised clan match, and it's one of the best maps around. Nuke, Inferno, Dust, Cpl Mill, Train, Dust2 and Aztec are probably the best maps in that order, IMO.

I love Dust2 and Aztec, but they're often 'overplayed' so you'll get some clans who are very good at those two maps, but not very good at any other map. I'd rather meet teams in maps that are as good for clan matches, but not as popular so it's actually the skill of the team that shines through, rather than how often you've played that particular map.

Dust used to be like that in the early betas - I started playing CS before the models were animated all the way back in Beta 1.2.

And? What does it matter? If you've got nothing better than that to contribute to the thread, don't bother in future please, it'll save me having to delete your post.

Bright, Nitty Gritty art with coincidentally brilliant mechanics are the combination that made Dust a winner with me.

cts can get to the cross over bit before t can then t are stuck camping out the end near there spawn and all you need on underpass if a sniper or someone on the bit above it to kill anyone that walks out under them.I agree dust2 is more even though. :thumb:

Yes I have played it in clan matches and still don't rate it main think I hate about it though its very boring and bland I like maps with abit character insted of boxes and sand

Dust was one of the most played CS maps.

It's a fanastic map but it's really starting to show it's age now. Personally, I found it a lot more playable on a public level and in fact it was dropped (i'm fairly sure) from the CPL's maplist for being a little too small and "scrappy" for clan matches. This is certainly more obvious when you look at it's more popular successor.

Back in Beta days, this map was "the s**t" tho ;)

I used to agree with that, however now I find that if I end up playing this map on a public server it inevitably ends up with the Ts camping around their side of the tunnel and just waiting for the CTs to come and hunt them. Not quite the way I like playing maps and it often leads to rounds timing out.

One of my fav maps is a dust derivative though; Dust2. I find it far more balanced and I wouldn't really say it favours any team over the other to any noticable degree.

Dust3 is small and crap and I hate it.

Since playing it for months solid during Source Beta, I'm rather sick of it, but it's superbly well-designed as far as gameplay goes. It'd be a bit better if more players (in Source anyways) actually played it as a bomb map rather than just shoot anything that moves. It IS incredible how well it worked out considering the development.

I wouldn't mind seeing an HDR-revamp of Dust from Valve though, along with a number of other CSS maps. Actually it seems that even most new CSS maps don't support it, even though the capability is there. Oh well.

    God I hate CS now.

I started playing CS at Beta 5.5 (when the Carbine had a scopt AND a silencer)

Havent played CS since I left working for the Cybercafe (I was manager for 3 teams, and sent em to the original WCG), and that was about 5 years ago

Well, having only been playing CS for about 6 months or so, I never really got the early experiences you guys did. The way it's played these days on public servers, it is a very CT oriented map. Dust2 however, seems a lot more even to me. Granted, there are much better maps out there, Dust2 is one of my favorites, along with Office, Aztec, and Nuke.

Yup, CS died in 1.0. Bring back beta and it's underground status please. Leave all the idiots out. Dust was good, but overplayed.

I've pretty much stopped playing cs now, I got bored of it and source was next to useless so I never played that for more than a few hours. I started playing cs in the early beta's 2/3 so I've played a heck of a lot over the years. More than no other game by a long margin so I do miss it in a way.

I now play loads of battlefield 2 which is excellent.
