Hey Guys, my brothers P3, Windows 2000 PC has recently gone down. The problem is, when i go to start the thing up, it loads up normally until it gets to the "loading windows" black and white loading bar, where it then stops on the second bar. So i took the Hard Drive out, slaved it into my PC and booted it, my boot up freezes after it checks my CD drives for bootable disks unless i remove it. Is it a dead hard drive? Any ideas? Thanks

Your best bet is to download and run the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software on the disk. It should be available freely on their website :)

Do you need to be in Windows to run it though? If so, i can't even boot to Windows while its connected. :S

Depends on the manufacturer. Seagate, Maxtor and Hitachi all offer bootables AFAIK, not sure on WD though.

WD also provides bootable versions of their diagnostic program. Either floppy or CD IIRC.
