So my motherboard has died which was a intel S1155 motherboard which had a dual core Pentium processor in it.

I had planned to upgrade to an i5 but seems as my motherboard is now dead I was looking at other options.

I have been looking at getting a AM3+ motherboard and CPU instead as they seem quite a bit cheaper than going Intel again for performance. I'm not after the fastest chip going nor do i tend to overclock so it seems a bit of a waste in me spending a lot

I was looking at spending around £40-£50 on a motherboard and maybe getting a FX6300 or FX8320.

Any advice on these chips? would i be better off with AMD over Intel?

Also looking for a motherboard with the latest SATA and USB3

As you can get H series 1155 boards 2nd hand for sub £20 on eBay id prob stick with the Pentium if it did what you needed :)

The computer is only used for gaming and will be getting an Oculus Rift when the retail version finally gets released so I'm guessing my little Pentium wont live up to the mark, i was putting off upgrading the CPU until next year but as my motherboard has died now is the opportunity to upgrade.

Never had an AMD CPU before but from the little shopping around I've done they seem to be the cheapest
